Leo, Samuel L Jackson and Dark Knight Rises are MAJOR snubs. As is Ben Affleck from Argo (from what I hear ... haven't seen that one yet).

This is a pretty interesting list of movies, I actually have a desire to see all of them except Amour (although I admittedly don't know much about it).

Interesting fun-fact: Silver Linings Playbook is the first movie to receive acting nominations in each of the 4 categories (Best Actor/Actress - Supporting Actor/Actress) since Reds in 1981.

Ben was on that Yahoo list to. And I hear that Kevin Smith isn't to happy about Ben being snubbed.

So... ARGO directed itself?! For what it's worth, @BenAffleck, this ol' movie-maker still thinks you're one of the Best Directors of 2012...

Now's my favorite time of year at the theaters. Looks like I'll be busy catching up on best picture contenders.

I hope Bane gets around to breaking everyone's spine who did not vote for The Dark Knight Rises...

Nah, okay, so I don't. But it is a shame that TDKR wasn't acknowledged for anything.

I don't mean to stir the waters or just be a nuisance, but I can't see why Dark Knight Rises SHOULD have been given the opportunity at Best picture. I enjoyed the movie, but mass appeal, plot holes, and sensationalism do not necessarily a good movie make.

                  Its a perfectly legitimate opinion.

My beef is not that it didn't get best picture but it got nominated for nothing....

Out of sheer curiosity and the interest of discussion, what would you have it nominated for?

If a film like Crash can win an oscar, The Dark Knight Rises should have a chance at being nominated for best picture.

Even Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was nominated last year, and reviews on that film were not that great.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention Avatar being nominated for best picture. C'mon now, AVATAR?! lol.

Re: 2013 Oscar Nominees have been announced

Well, I can check one category off ... Best Animated Movie.

                        I'd rank them as follows:
Frankenweenie - Oscar Pick for Best Animated Feature
Brave - Really strong, enjoyed it much more than I thought I would
ParaNorman - My dark horse, this could win Best Animated Feature
Wreck It Ralph - I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would, too much hype maybe? I'm sure on repeated viewings on Blu Ray I'll learn to like it.
Pirates - I thought it was an absolute bore of a movie

As for Best Picture, I have 5 of the 9 down (Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Beats of the Southern Wild).

Argo is my pick for Best Picture so far.

OK, now that I've seen 8 out of the 9 Best Picture nominees (haven't seen Amour) and quite a few of the other categories I'm going to make my picks. I will show what WILL win, what I think SHOULD win and if applicable, what my personal favorite from each category is.

                            Best Picture:
                            Will Win: Argo
                            Should Win: Argo
                            Personal Favorite: Django Unchained

                            Actress:
Will Win/Should Win/Personal Favorite: Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook

                            Actor:
Will Win: Daniel Day Lewis - Lincoln
Should Win: Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
Personal Favorite: Toss up between Bradley Cooper and Denzel

                            Supporting Actress:
Will Win/Should Win/Personal favorite: Anne Hathaway - Les Miserables

                            Supporting Actor:
Will Win/Should Win/Personal Favorite: Christoph Waltz - Django Unchained

                            Director:
Will Win: Steven Spielberg - Lincoln
Should Win/Personal Favorite: Ben Affleck - Argo (Got ROBBED!!!)

                            Animated:
                            Will Win/Should Win/Personal Favorite: Frankenweenie
