It's the calm before the storm at Disneyland before Summer Nightastic! crowds descend on the Anaheim theme park this Friday. While Fantasmic! and MagicalDisney California Adventure as that park prepares to deliver World of Color; its biggest entertainment offering since opening in 2001. The new water show is expected to be the hit of Southern California theme park offerings this summer and is the centerpiece of the Disneyland Resort's 2010 Summer Nightastic! promotion. So far reviews have been pretty positive from the few who have reported back from private preview showings, but with the potential to be a crowd control nightmare, it'll be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to the new show. Meanwhile, construction projects elsewhere in the park continue and set up for other Nightastic! offerings is moving in.

GLOW IN THE PARK
Last week Disney announced that Glow Fest would join the Summer Nightastic! line-up at California Adventure.

Disney described Glow Fest on the DisneyParks Blog:

Set-up for Glow Fest could already be seen in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot and Sunshine Plaza by the end of the week.

The Glow Fest decorations are kind of tacky, and it's a shame that the staging for the nightly event has to be out all day, but hopefully it's a worthwhile addition to the Summer Nightastic line-up.

Scaffolding is up on the upper level of Playhouse Disney. Could they be installing a temporary overlay or lighting effects for Glow Fest?

Construction continues at various Disney's California Adventure projects as the countdown begins on the new World of Color

Of course, the thing everybody is watching is World of Color. Walt Disney Imagineering and Cast Member previews took place over the weekend and Los Angeles radio stations KOST and MyFM will have their private party on Tuesday. The celebrity-attended red carpet premiere will take place Thursday night (both Disneyland and California Adventure close early Thursday night), and the public will finally get their chance to see the show on Friday.

The first honest reviews for World of Color have started to trickle in to MiceChat. View the thoughts from those at the Imagineering and Cast Memeber previews here: World of Color Official Reviews and Discussions. Add your review and you could win in MiceChat's World of Color contest:

With the small viewing area capacity and the huge interest in the show, the crowd control will be interesting to watch on Friday night as crowds of locals taking advantage of the 3-day Summer ticket and unblocked Annual Passholders try to get a spot for the show. Brady MacDonald at the LA Times Funland blog talked about the show's potential to be a crowd control nightmare:

The OC Register's Around Disney blog had more to say on World of Color viewing options, including the dining options we told you about here last week:

Disney offers ways to reserve show viewing spots
The Disneyland Resort for the first time will issue a limited number of tickets to visitors that will guarantee spots to watch a nighttime show, Disney announced Tuesday.

For the upcoming World of Color show, park goers will be able to pick up Fastpasses that will allow them to get into specific viewing areas at night at Disney California Adventure. Normally, the Fastpass system is only for rides, giving visitors a ticket to get in the front of the line at designated times. Fastpasses are free with admission. Read a previous story about plans for tickets to World of Color.

Disney also is offering dining packages that reserve spots for seeing World of Color, a major light-and-water show that debuts to regular theme park visitors June 11.

The meal options are:
 • , which start at $29.99 for adults and $15.99 for children.
 • Prix fixe dinners at Wine Country Trattoria, which cost $39.99 for adults and $18.99 for children.
 • Picnic meal boxes, costing $14.99. Reservations for picnic boxes can be made online at as early as June 10.

For the restaurant meals, visitors can make reservations by calling 714-781-DINE. Restaurant diners will get access to the specific standing-only viewing areas after they eat.

Mary Niven, vice president of Disney California Adventure, said Disney is offering the tickets so that visitors can avoid camping out all day for a spot to watch the show.

Because the show is expected to be popular, Disney is allowing visitors to line up June 11 before the park opens and they will be led to the Fastpass area by Grizzly River Run to get tickets for that day.

Disney originally expected that 9,000 people would be able to fit in an amphitheater park area, which was constructed for viewing World of Color, but only about half as many people are now expected to go in that area. The show also can be seen from other areas around Paradise Bay.

World of Color FASTPASS tickets will be available at the Grizzly River Run FASTPASS Distribution Area

Tickets will specify which viewing zone you're in. Hope that you get a good one!

Despite the potential for crowd mayhem, Disney continues to hype the show inside and outside the park.

New "World of Color" paint tubes have been added to floral planters throughout California Adventure, cleverly promoting the new show.

Flower barrels have been added in clusters around Paradise Pier.

Surprisingly, the flower barrels really help make the place look nicer. They're a simple, but nice touch.

And over in Paradise Park, the new play fountain has finally been turned on. It's a nice feature and will be a popular spot as the summer temperatures continue to heat up.

Over at the Silly Symphony Swings, the lightning effects are now working. A nice little bonus for an already charming ride.

Construction continues at Ariel's Undersea Adventure...

The new candy shoppe in Fantasyland now has fresh candy made in Resort candy kitchens available for purchase.

DCA's Blue Sky Cellar is closed while they bring in the new Little Mermaid and Goofy's Sky Skool displays.

And Ridemakerz continues construction in Downtown Disney
