It was a quiet news week at Disneyland as off-season refurbishments continued around the park before the annual holiday season starts to move in. Still, it's never really quiet over at Disney California Adventure as the park continues its major remodel and expansion. Progress can be seen along Buena Vista Street with new parade lighting going up and construction progress on the area's new centerpiece fountain. Meanwhile, streetlights are going up along the main street of Radiator Springs in the huge 12-acre Cars Land expansion. Outside the parks, the Disneyland Hotel's E-Ticket Pool plans to live up to its name with newly-placed pool tile reproductions of classic Disneyland E-Tickets.

The Annual CHOC Walk at the Disneyland Resort brought thousands of supporters over the weekend in support of the Children's Hospital of Orange County. The OC Register has details on the event for a good cause:

CHOC Walk draws 14,000 to Disneyland
Fireworks over Sleeping Beauty's Castle and confetti canons along Main Street greeted more than 14,000 walkers arriving at dawn to Disneyland Sunday for the 21st annual CHOC Walk at the Park.

About 750 teams completed the 5K course, raising $1.6 million for programs at Children's Hospital of Orange County.

"There is nothing like seeing Main Street full with so many people coming together for such a good cause," said Allen Fazio, a Disney vice president who sits on the CHOC Foundation's board of directors.

Most teams walked in honor of patients treated by the hospital. Some carried banners with pictures of children who have passed away after illnesses. The route weaved through Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure and Downtown Disney. Mickey, Minnie and other Disney characters cheered walkers on.

One of the largest groups with nearly 300 walkers was Team Timmaree Rocks, named after Timmaree Hicks, who died from cancer three years ago at the age of 9. Team members whore turquoise shirts with a large butterfly logo that Timmaree had drawn while a patient at CHOC.

"We are all very grateful to CHOC for all the doctors, nurses and everyone did to help Timmaree," said Debbie Hicks, the girl's mom. "We will continue to come back each year because the money we raise will help save lives."

The team has participated for four years and has helped raise more than $100,000 for the hospital.

[ . . . ] The CHOC Walk began in 1991, running from the MainPlace Mall in Santa Ana to the Disneyland parking lot. Around 1,400 walkers participated that first year. Ten years ago, the event moved to a course inside Disneyland. Disney's involvement dates back to the 1960s, when Walt Disney was a founding board member. A look at the current refurbishments and construction projects underway at Disneyland.

MAIN STREET PROJECTS
The Main Street Photo Supply's facade refurbishment has finished.

Looks clean and new again. Nice.

No visible work at the old Plaza Pavilion while work on transforming it into a new Mary Poppins-themed bakery continues inside.

ADVENTURELAND RESTROOMS AND PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN REFURB
Adventureland's restrooms have emerged from their refurbishment. Outside, the thatched roof was redone and the rock fountain was repainted to a dark green color. An interesting choice, to be sure.

In New Orleans Square, Pirates of the Caribbean's refurbishment continues inside and out.

FRONTIER WALLS, SMALL WORLD HOLIDAY
Back in Frontierland, construction walls have popped up across from the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad exit, in about the same place as the former McDonald's French fry cart.

Perhaps the installation of a more permanent Disney Vacation Club kiosk is on its way? Hopefully that isn't the case...

Over in Fantasyland, only a week remains to see "it's a small world" in its traditional state before it closesto install its annual holiday overlay.

CALIFORNIA CONSTRUCTION
Work continues on the remainder of California Adventure's $1 billion-dollar remodel and expansion...

BUENA VISTA STREET & HOLLYWOOD LAND
The Buena Vista Street project continues to make progress at Disney California Adventure.

A look at construction at the former California Zephyr shops from Condor Flats

Parade lighting and speakers have started to go up along the Carthay Circle area of Buena Vista Street.

The parade lighting fixtures are a necessary evil in the theme park setting, it's just a shame that the Buena Vista Street parade lights couldn't have been implemented less conspicuously.

You can spot new tile work and other new details behind the green tarp

The future home of Elias and Co. Department Store.

Nearby, some of the inner workings of the new Carthay Circle fountain can be seen peeking over construction walls.

Back in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, some construction walls have popped up around recently-installed Red Car Trolley track next to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

PARADISE PIER & PACIFIC WHARF
Across the bay in Paradise Pier, California Screamin' has reopened.

The coaster was in high demand on Saturday after its lengthy refurbishment. The attraction didn't open until some final inspections in the morning and eager guests lined up on Paradise Pier for its early afternoon re-opening.

Nearby in Pacific Wharf, the cement platform that the Mission Tortilla Factory grain silos once stood on has been removed and themed paving has taken its place.

CARS LAND
Work continues on Cars Land as new streetlights are installed along the main street of Radiator Springs.

THIS & THAT
Back in California Adventure, another temporary merchandise cart has been set up near Grizzly Peak. These carts may continue to pop up in various places while the park's former flagship retail location in the main entrance is closed to be rethemed as part of the Buena Vista Street project.

Sad news. Story from the OC Register's Around Disney blog:

Disneyland employee killed while bicycling home

A vehicle fatally struck a woman, identified as a Disneyland employee, while she was riding her bicycle home from work early Thursday morning.

Police later identified the victim as Margaret Conway, 21, from Anaheim.

Anaheim police received a call regarding a traffic collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist on Ball Road and the I-5 at 12:30 a.m., said Sgt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department.

Dunn said the woman was riding her bicycle eastbound on Ball Road in the No. 1 lane and was crossing the I-5 over pass when a white Ford sport utility vehicle struck her from behind.

The woman was pronounced dead at a nearby trauma center, Dunn added.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle remained at the scene and at this point alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision, Dunn said.

Thursday morning, Disneyland officials released a statement about the fatal collision.

"I join with all of our cast members as we mourn the loss of one of our own," said George A. Kalogridis, president of the Disneyland Resort.

"Our thoughts are with her family, friends and co-workers after this tragic accident."
