Just got my first piece! And a question about the Castles

Woo hoo!

Yesterday my most awaited collectible arrived--my first Olszewski miniature set: the Central Plaza. It arrived in perfect condition and I hadn't even realized that the trees "sparkled."

I even got a pretty good deal through ebay--I got the plaza (First Edition--not that that matters to me) plus the Fab 5 pack for under $75 shipped. Not too bad! I know my other half is likely to get me a piece or two for Christmas (thus my starting small here--I want him to be able to surprise me), and now I can't wait.

So, now my question: Are the bases for Cinderella Castle and Sleeping Beauty Castle the same size and shape, or are they completely different? I ask because I'm thinking of collecting the Disneyland Main Street (1) it's already finished and (2) I now live in California, so easier to visit the parks to pick up pieces--but, I really do prefer Cinderella Castle and wouldn't mind cheating and mixing that in with the other Disneyland pieces (I know, I know--sacrilege!).

I'm assuming they AREN'T the same size...but figured I'd ask just in case. I really can't tell from the photos.

Congratulations on your first piece. Welcome to the Olszewski addiction.

The WDW and DL castles are way different, but if you're making your own collection, I don't see why you couldn't mix and match pieces. You could even have a park with TWO castles!!!

I figured they would be pretty different, but thought it was worth the ask since I am unlikely to see them together anytime soon

My thinking is that *someday* I would like to have the full Main Street setup, so I need the pieces to fit together.

Still, I love Cinderella Castle--so I'll probably end up picking that up and displaying it separately. Not only is it a great design, but I grew up in Florida, and even though I only went once growing up, I saw images of that castle all the time--so it has the nostalgia tug. If I still lived in the South, I would definitely go with that version of Main Street--oh well!


Now to do some searching of the forums to learn about the "domes" people seem to use to keep dust away

Welcome to the "club" These pieces are incredible. There is a very active Yahoo group. Lots of information shared there.

The two castles are proportionately to scale with regard to each other, so the Cinderella Castle is much bigger than Sleeping Beauty Castle.

I bit the bullet and bought both castles. The WDW version is simply amazing. I love the way the colors change on the lighting. The scale doesn't look quite right with the Disneyland pieces, but who cares?! It is beautiful!

I have a feeling I'm going to end up doing that myself. I just love the Cinderella Castle too much. Still, I've got a long way to go before I get to that point!

For now, bring on Splash Mountain!

I wouldn't count on a Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant, but it would be amazing if he did.

We've heard that Tony Baxter would like to have a collection of all the Disney castles done by Olszewski, so we're definitely on board with that! Now it's just a matter of convincing Disney.

Actually, with the current exchange rates, if they sold these pieces at Disneyland Paris, they'd make a bundle of money.

You mean if they sold DL's or WDW's pieces at DLP? Why would they do that? Or do you mean just DLP's castle? In any case, it's really a matter of whether or not the pieces will sell there at all - not sure how the collectibles market works there. DL's pieces sell way better than WDW's for a number of reasons, some having to do with how Disney handles the merchandise and some having to do with the difference in clientele.
