Excuse me as I am in overload, with the launch of all the halloween stuff today. But here is the important stuff.... Duffy!

Duffy and ShellieMay strolling around Old Cape Cod wearing their cute outfits resembling ladybugs. And I also love how TippyBlue is joining in on the fun, dressed up as a crow!^^

Here are the images of the outfits:

    (Duffy)

    (ShellieMay)

And they have brought back the Duff 'o lanterns, and this year, Shellie has her very own!^^

And this is one of my very favorite piece of merchandise, a case designed to resemble an old school camera.

Yeah, I have to agree...I'm a little disappointed. For once, I have someone who is nice enough and can get me stuff, and I'm underwhelmed by what's usually my favorite costumes.

Christmas better be good to make up for this...LOL.

Okay I thought it was just me being not overly thrilled with the costumes. I am in LOVE with the cat costume from 2009 (I think) That for halloween it has to be amazing for me to want to get it. I do how ever think they did a great job with the costumes, it must be hard each year coming up with ideas. And this one is very cute, if I were made of money, I would get it.

I do love they have the lanterns as I didnt get one last year.

I am in love with the new bags, I want them all. lol

I think OLC did a great job, way better then what WDI is putting out. For that I am thankful OLC is mixing it up and giving fans options. When will the suites at WDI understand that Duffy true fan base wants more unique items?

Side note, I was at birthday party saturday and a ShellieMay found a new home. Someone had ordered from Japan (not sure if it was Duffy Post or not) a Shellie for the birthday girl. It was great to see Shellie is making her way to the states. Thankfully via Japan. lol

I wish they had Tippy dressed up in some type of plush. Maybe a cell phone strap or something. He is so cute. Ohhhh I love a cell phone cover too, with all the characters.

            Re: Duffy Halloween 2012 Merchandise!

There seems to be less items this year, but then again there has been so many product releases this year it has been unreal! lol

I am not a Halloween person myself, so I have never bought Duffy an outfit. But I will buy Shellie the lady bug costume.

@Janell I think you mean Disney Themepark Merchandise Division is the one that design and produce merchandise for WDW/DL/HKDL/Paris. OLC has their own team that is advised by Disney.

Sorry Travis, yes the Merchandise team. I always put it under WDI but I shouldnt. Ive heard the designer for Duffy in the states tries hard to do cool things but the people above him change it and gives us what we get. Im not a fan of the Merchandise they put out at WDW and DLR these days. Im miss the days of the 50th ann where there was really cool stuff.

Oh some lovely items, but I must save for our holiday and wait until next year for Sweet Duffy (my favourite theme looking back over the previous costumes!)

That bag design is so cool, much better than the Dooney and Bourke ones! But as it's Halloween theme I couldn't use it for most of the year.

I haven't needed to change the batteries yet on mine, so I have no idea. The cool thing about the lanterns is the light fades in an out randomly like if there were a candle inside flickering!

                        Re: Duffy Halloween 2012 Merchandise!

I know I'm late to this party. I've been writing this on and off all day and it's just time to post. Please forgive any spelling errors, or if I lost something in editing.

Well, I expected to be surprised this Halloween and in that respect, Cape Cod Halloween Parade does not disappoint. In every way, it is fresh and truly new. It is with mixed emotions, then, that I love everything about it…except the actual costumes.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the problem is. I totally adore the concept art and the costumes fully realize the artwork in every detail. In fact, the real costumes are even more convincing of a truly "handmade from hand-me-downs" feel that perfectly suits the charm and nostalgia of Duffy's Cape Cod.

I  the "Autumn Outings" bag series, too! It looks so similar to Disney LeSportsac releases. I'll probably buy at least a couple of them, but I can't help thinking this concept was an obvious match for Spring Voyage and with that theme I'd have used it year-round. Especially if it didn't have the words "Spring Voyage" printed on. SV is now a classic, timeless event for Duffy history and so were many of its designs. Like Becx, "Trick-or-Treat" is something I'd only use in September and October, even though it's also part of his history that Duffy was the first to bring Halloween to DisneySEA, exclusive to Cape Cod. Still, at those prices, if my camera fits, I may pick up all of them. The pricing is fantastic and I am honestly shocked by it, in the best possible way.^^

I don't really see them as "lacking;" the materials, construction and attention to details are all there. For me, it's just a fundamentally different approach that I'm not personally thrilled by. This is clearly someone's very real, worked over and carefully executed vision. It's certainly nothing like the recycled New Year and EPCOT Chef costumes in the US, and Duffy's has a bowtieHalloween Parade or Autumn Excursion items (rather than the usual 50% seasonal items requirement). Hopefully there are some folks who really  the Cape Cod Halloween Parade release; they'll get a great deal!^^

Aw, this makes me really sad. I have said many times, even at the release, that I was worried that last year's Halloween sets put the bar incredibly high. To my mind, 2011 was even "better" than the legendary Black Cat costume. I've revamped the Post charges to make it possible for WishListers to only get the Light Lanterns or the tote, or lots of little things. Plus, for folks who do want a lot of the CCHP or first-time WLers getting ShellieMay or Regular Series stuff, I hope 10% off makes for a fun Halloween "treat!" See details of the 20/20 campaign in the Duffy Post thread HERE.

I strongly encourage getting the Lanterns this year. I knew it would be back because they didn't do a Shellie version last year. Now that they are, there's no guarantee these will be back. If you love it, get it now. If you don't love it, I can't help you.

Cute Shellie story! I don't think I had anything to do with it, but the story made me .

I wish they'd done more merchandise with those backup characters, too. Those characters are so Japanese and not really Disney (except "Clarence Cow"^^). I don't want them all to have names and back stories, and I don't really want to see them again… But…I think I'd like a small strap that featured each of them individually or something. I'll definitely get the stickers and postcard. I really like their designs and the concept art. I kinda wish, though, that Duffy and Shellie had stolen the cats' devil skeleton and angel costumes. Those two are really cute, although the angel would need to have a skirt or something.^^

Even TDRdeASOBLOGgercommented about the small scale of this year's release, with photos comparing to last year.:shy: Honestly, I'm not gonna complain too much. I still want all of the Autumn Outings bags, the tea and treats, and the stationery stuff. And I actually think this is the first time I like the badge versions better than the full-size costumes. They'll look so cute on the Autumn Outings bags. After Spring Voyage and with the AO bag line-up, saving a little on costumes is not terribly disappointing.

I think she was probably talking about a "Tippy Black" Halloween version, which I also wish they'd made. On the plus side, with a little high-quality black felt and some patience, it wouldn't be that hard to customize the normal Tippy strap. His costume is pretty easy.

Overall, I'm really impressed that the team took a risk and moved in such a new direction for Halloween Parade, and I am both pleased with and put off by how unabashedly Japanese the whole vibe is, right down to the idea of Ladybugs somehow working as a central theme for Halloween. There's nothing lazy or cheap about it, and although I wish I liked the costumes more, I love all the concept art stuff enough that I still consider this a success. It doesn't surpass 2011's Duffy's Halloween Dream, but it's certainly fresh and has its own charm. I can see by looking at it that whoever made it really cared about what they were doing; I don't have to hear about it in an interview or secondhand. As long as OLC keeps doing that, I'll keep supporting them, even when our tastes differ slightly. Some artist(s) got to realize what they believed in, and I think that's wonderful.^^

Wow, you've gotten into my head again! I have the exact same feelings that you do, almost exactly! It's not that the costumes and design aren't good...they are, and they are high quality as usual. They just aren't my taste. I can see the thought process, and they honestly have a nostalgic quality. It's like one of those turn of the century postcards with toddlers dressed in cute Halloween costumes...it also reminds me a bit of the little rascals for some odd reason.

I do like the idea of the bags too, and the pricing is pretty good considering what they are. The only thing is the Halloween theme. They limit when I can use them, and I already have the older Halloween canvas totes. Still, I may think about these...

It's certainly nothing like the recycled New Year and EPCOT Chef costumes in the US, and Duffy's has a bowtie! It doesn't appeal to me as a costume concept for Halloween, but there's no lack of effort or quality. If anything, the most shocking thing about these is how absolutely original they are as a Duffy release. That said, I can't help thinking of the countless versions of Pooh in a bee costume or Build-A-Bear's multitude of fairy costumes with petal skirts.
Again, you're in my head, LOL! This is definitely original for Duffy, and something not even remotely like anything they've done before. It's not a pumpkin rehash or anything. At the same time, the things that popped into my head were the many instances of Pooh dressed as bugs, and also the fairy costumes from Build-a-Bear. They are just too reminiscent of those for my personal taste. I know they will be better quality than any of those other things, I just don't care for the bug designs. They are a little too...cute and juvenile for my taste. I loved last year's designs the most because they were so versatile, and at the same time just a little bit understated. These have that Japanese aesthetic that sometimes goes just a little too far over the edge.

Awesome! I was wondering how I was going to come up with enough that I wanted, but I do want some of those regular series items, so I can add them in.

I LOVE that black cat costume too...I mean it's one of the best ever. However, I think 2011's costumes are the best so far. I love all of them together. In fact, when I have my 3 bears dressed up, I always pair the cat with last year's costumes because they go so well together...the witch, wizard, and kitty!

Yeah, I need that ShellieMay lantern! I bought multiple Duffy ones last year because I didn't anticipate this, and I figured they would be gone.

These new characters came out of nowhere! They're cute, but so random. Except that cow...who has been a background character in the storybooks since the start. The cats are totally new. I guess they didn't want to include the Mice, since they're in the bigger Halloween extravaganza, so they made up a whole new parade crew for Duffy and Shellie.

At first I was disappointed that there was such a limited selection of merchandise this year, but then I was relieved. After the huge Spring Voyage release, and then the steady stuff that's been coming out since, it's actually nice to have a smaller thing. I need the break, and so does my wallet!

I agree wholeheartedly with everything, the Japanese vibe, the uniqueness, and how it's different, but not a bad thing. It's just not my personal taste.

DuffyD, I agree I think these costumes do look home made (in a good way) and I like that. If I were going to be in the park for halloween I would want to get these. (we arent going into the parks here for halloween either) Im glad that OLC is mixing it off, not everyone likes the same things so this could bring in new Duffy fans because its a different type of costume then they had before.

DuffyD, your funny. I do love the lanterns. They have done a great job with them. I secretly hope one of these years they do something that lights up for christmas. Well all the seasons over the years would be nice, but not all at once. lol

I was talking about the halloween Tippie Blue. But you are both right it would be easy to make, just take time. Im on the fence, I think I like them to develop Tippie Blue a bit more, but still keep him as not one of the main characters like Shellie and Duffy. He adds some fun to it all.

Im still in love with the bags. I like that they are halloween, but your right gurgi its limiting when you can use it. I would be okay with that if they keep doing the other seasons.

Ive been thinking about why I like the cat costume. Its the velvet(I think it velvet) material used, its so soft. You just want to hold Duffy. So its not that the cat costume is better then the new one. Its just more soft.

I was so excited to see the thread but that quickly waned when I saw the actual costumes.... Idk, they look great and cute and all, but not my taste at all. They just look so, idk, strange to me. I guess it's what DuffyDaisuki said, they're very Japanese. I usually like that, but idk not these. Last year's was definitely the best! So versatile and much more mature looking. These look more kiddie like. I like my bears dressing more sophisticated and "grown up".

LOL I am in the minority once again because I love these costumes! Seems like I often have opposite tastes than many other Duffeteers in this forum.

Maybe I like these more because I am quite into costuming (more historical/ethnic rather than cosplay). So I really like the sets that look like costumes rather than normal clothes. For example, I bought many of the international and character costumes from BaB for the bears.

Love love love the Shellie lantern!!! I also bought 2 Duffy ones last year so Shellie will be very happy to get her own now.

And of course I also have to have the camera bag and big tote...

I swear I almost posted that you were gonna be the one of us who "gets" these costumes and that because of that, you'd be totally excited about them. Durnit…like the ShellieMay Lantern, I wish I had actually posted so there was proof!

I guess you're extra lucky. You get to love it all and you still save 10%. Don't forget to check out the 20/20 deal in the Duffy Post Guidelines thread!

EDIT: My other predicted fan of these is Sue Kruse. Will I be right...?

If you love them then OLC is doing things right. They are finding a way to make everyone happy. That's not easy lol

Come to think of it, this is probably the big thing for me, too. In the concept art, they look like kids trick-or-treating, but it looks like that whole world is kids trick-or-treating so I  it. Outside of the art, it's Duffy in a more juvenile costume and that's probably what I'm reacting to. Lots of fans (possibly the majority, honestly:blush see Duffy that way, but that's just not my take. Janell is right. When you do high-quality releases as often as OLC does, variety is not a bad thing. In some ways, it kinda makes me feel better about the fact that I bought almost every single item last year. When there's that kind of diversity and every item is collectible, it adds value and incentive to buy what I like right now and know that I'll always be happy I did. Thanks, NRubus and Janell. That was the last little thing I needed to be totally onboard with Halloween Parade for what it is.^^

I bought two Duffy Lanterns last year, too. I really did think they'd do it again this year and offer Shellie's, but Shellie was already around last year and with OLC you really never know. Always better safe than sorry. I don't regret it. Actually, I think I'm gonna just go ahead and get two of the Shellie Lanterns as well. They make great decorations on their own and someday I may even find the perfect person to give the extra set to!^^
