  • Trip Report Disney Wonder! Dec 6-10

Warning! This trip report will not contain any pictures due to my computers uncapability of uploading the pictures. This may get boring for some of you!

    Day 1
We woke up early after staying the night in an Embassy Suite because we flew over the day before (we need an entire day to travel to Florida!). We then rode the hotel shuttle to the airport where we checked in for our cruise and etc. We had to wait a hour or so until we boarded the Disney Cruise bus (we were the first bus to be sent over to the terminal). We got to the cruise terminal and got everything situated, etc etc. We were the third group to board and boarded around 12ish if I remember correctly. We were greeted by a bunch of cheery people who welcomed us aboard and motioned us to Parrot Cay. We ate a lunch buffet there. It was a very quick lunch due to me pressuring everyone to hurry. I was very anxious to go and explore. We then walked the decks and checked everything out until our room was ready. We then went to some sort of shopping presentation. After the shopping presentation was the evacuation drill. I was very surprised at how nice and organized it was! After the drill we explored for a while and then went to our room and changed for dinner (every night for dinner we dressed really fancy just because we thought it would be fun! haha). Our dinner that night was at Animator's Pallate. Our servers were very kind, although they were a bit hard to understand at times. The first night at sea was very, very rough. Three people in our group got sea sick, even our waiter said the seas were really bad. After dinner we went to The Golden Mickeys. It was a good show, but it did seem to drag on. My mom didn't like it very much because it was a musical and she isn't a huge fan of musicals. After the show we went back to our room for a while and checked up on my little sister (who decided to miss the play because she wasn't feeling too good). We then decided to go and get some pizza from Deck 9 (dinner wasn't too fabulous). After we grabbed some pizza and chowed it down my dad decided to go back to the room and my mom and I walked around the jogging track. We walked two miles before returning to our room. We then got ready for bed and slept the night away.

I will write Day 2 tomorrow

    Day 2
We woke up early as we were nearing Nassau. The day before my mom, dad, and I canceled our Nassau excursions. We then went and dropped my little sister off with my cousin (who decided to join us on the cruise with her husband) and they went on some Stingray excursion. My parents and I got off the ship and shopped around in Nassau. We didn't really buy anything except for some small things from Del Sol, the magical store.(: I thought the people on Nassau were a little pushy (especially in the jewelry stores!). For example- we walked into an approved DCL jewelry store and I just quietly pointed at something and said "Ah. That's pretty". A vulture-like lady then ran over and took it out of the case! She shoved it into my hand while exclaiming,"Try it on! Try it on! It'll look gorgeous on you!" I kindly explained to her that I didn't want to try it on. Then she started bugging my parents!!! "Oh! You just have to buy it for her! You want your daughter happy, right?!" Well, we finally left the jewelry store. We then boarded the ship again and met my little sister and cousin on deck 3. They had lots of fun on their excursion. My dad then went and took my cousin and little sister out to explore Nassau. My mom and I stayed behind and went and watched Disney's Christmas Carol in 3D. Unfortunately for her she can't see in 3D since she is blind out of one eye. It was about 15 minutes until the show started and my mom and I both agreed that popcorn and a drink would be nice. Well, I ran all the way up to Deck 9 and grabbed us something to drink (no popcorn though). I made it back in time with a few minutes to spare! Oh, by the way, we only took the elevator one time during our entire stay. We are all very active people. After the movie we went back to our room and changed for dinner. Dinner that night took place in Parrot Cay. Once again, the food wasn't fabulous, maybe because most of us aren't fish fans and some of the sauces they put on the meat are very bizarre, but at least we tried it! After dinner we went and saw Toy Story- The Musical. It had good effects and all, but it seemed to drag on. My mom decided to skip out on the musical since it's not her kind of thing. After the musical my mom and I went and walked around the jogging track. We walked two miles once again. Everynight we walk two miles, it's a routine thing that my mom has done for as long as I can remember. My mom and I then explored the ship for a while before returning to our room and getting ready for bed

      Day 3
We woke up in the morning and were already in port in Castaway Cay. My mom had ordered room service for us so we quickly ate breakfast. When we were done eating breakfast and getting ready for the day an announcement was made that everyone could now disembark the ship. We ran all the way down to Deck 1 and got off the ship. My mom and I went into the post office to mail some postcards and then we started walking towards the beach. "Oh no! I forgot our excursion tickets in our room!," my mom exclaimed. My mom and I boarded the ship again, while my dad and little sister walked to the beach. We grabbed the tickets and soon enough we were off the ship once again. Our excursion tickets included snorkel rentals, tube rentals, and bike rentals. We went and got our tubes first. My dad, little sister, and I tubed in the water while my mom sat in a beach chair. After a while I got out of the water and joined my mom on the beach. My dad and little sister went and got there snorkeling equipment and my mom and I walked around the beach. After a while, we all went and got lunch. After lunch my mom and I decided to go and rent bikes. We rode the bikes around for a long time while my dad and little sister snorkeled. I chose not to snorkel (I hate going more than knee deep in ocean water!) and so did my mom. My mom and I gave our snorkel rentals to my cousins since they were already paid for. When we were done bike riding we got back on the ship and went swimming. While we were swimming there was a guy in there about my age or a year older who was "checking me out" according to my mom. Well, he said hello to me and I said hello back. I didn't hear him say anything else so I just kept quiet. Well, according to my mom he said "What's up?" and I completely ignored him! I feel terrible and he looked like a really nice guy (so guy, if your out there let me know!!) After swimming we walked around the jogging track once again. We completed two miles and then I went and got french fries off of deck 9 (I am a huge french fry lover!). We walked around the ship and looked at our pictures and went in all the shops and then returned to our room to meet up with my little sister and dad. They both had a lot of snorkeling for hours. We then went and got ready for dinner. Dinner tonight was at Parrot Cay once again. After dinner my parents and I went a dropped my little sister off at the kids place and she hated it! She said all the kids were younger then her (she's 12). I then went to the teen place, but no one talked to me. I tried talking to them, but most of them were sibilings or relatives and basically stayed clear of loners like me. I then went and explored the ship all by myself and got something to drink before returning to the room. When I got back to the room no one was there so I just stood out on the balcony for a while. When every returned we all stayed up for a while and talked and planned the next day out. We then went to bed.

        Re: Disney Wonder! Dec 6-10

        Day 4
This was our day at sea so we slept in for a while. We then went and waited for Parrot Cay to open their lunch buffet. The lunch buffet was mainly fish, but we found some other good stuff. After lunch my mom and little sister went to a towel folding class. I decided not to go since that kind of stuff isn't my cup of tea and I knew it would just make me frusterated. My dad went to some beer tasting thing and I walked around the ship. I went to the teen place once again, but no one talked to me again so I left and briskly walked around the trck for a while. Then I went and got some french fries from Deck 9. I then returned to the room with my french fries and a delicous diet coke. I ate my french fries up and then my mom and little sister returned to the room. My mom hated the towel folding class, but my little sister loved it! My little sister is very creative. We waited for my dad in our room since we were suppose to meet up there, but he never came, so we went and did something without. I forget what it was. We then returned to our room and our dad was there. My mom lectured him about not being there and it turns out that he went to some art show with my cousin's husband and didn't hear us say we were suppose to meet at the room. My little sister and I then went to the stores to look for some towel folding book she wanted. Well, they didn't have the book so she was a little bummed out about that. My parents then came and joined us to shop. My mom bought all of us girls, including my cousin, a handmade bracelet. They were cheap, but very pretty. I then bought a cheap, but pretty ring and some post cards. We all bought a few little things and then returned to our room to get ready for dinner. Dinner that night was at Triton's. It was alright. My dad tried escargot and loved it!! He said they weren't slimy. They didn't even look like snails! Yes, we all took pictures. Hahaha. After dinner we all went to go see Disney Dreams. It was the best play in my opinion. It did drag on though. After the play my mom and I went walking around the track. Half the track was closed due to high winds!! Then we went and got my dad and little sister and we all explored the ship for a long time. We took a lot of pictures considering it was our last night. We then went back to our room. On our way to the room I saw the kid from the pool and so I said, "Hello!" He looked a little confused and returned the hello. We then ordered a ton of room service just for the heck of it. My mom and I then ran up to deck 9 and grabbed us all something to drink. After eating the delicous feast we all got ready for bed.

          Leaving
We woke up in the morning and at breakfast at Triton's which is where we were assigned. As soon as we were done eating breakfast we left. We then gathered our luggage and a very nice man came to help us. He carried all our fifty million suitcases on a cart and said,"This customs guy is my buddy. I'll get you through customs without even stopping!" We flew right by customs and never had to stop. It was incredible! We got on the first bus back to the airport. Once at the airport we got a rental car. We went to Downtown Disney and met my cousin and her husband there. We hung around there for a while and ate dinner/lunch at T-Rex Cafe. We then went and got checked into our hotel. We were staying at an Embassy Suites near Disney World. We got situated in our room and then left for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. We then spent two days at Disney World after and were able to go to every park and do everything we wanted to

            Other
I left out a lot so I'll talk about some things here
-The maid: Our maid was fabulous!! She was always in the hallway and would always ask us if we needed anything. Every night there was a new towel animal in our room and every night those little towel animals were wearing my mom's sunglasses! It was quite adorable!
-The room and our neighbors: Our room was pretty nice! It was small, but thats okay. There was a lot of storage room for clothing items. I loved the verandah! Our neighbors to the left of us were very quiet. We never heard them once! Our neighbors to the right of us were very, very loud in the morning. We would wake up to a kid around the age of 5 creaming at the top of his lungs every morning. He would scream as if somebody was murdering him. After a few minutes we would start to hear the dad talk, he didn't even try making the kid quiet. My mom complained about this once and later that day management sent up chocolate covered strawberries and apple cider to our room! It was very kind of them. Our maid later told us she believed the parents were drunk through out a lot of the cruise.
-The food: The food was good and bad. Dinner seemed to take too long most of the time. Dinner usually lasted two hours or so. We ate breakfast/lunch at the Beach Blanket Buffet twice and it was pretty good!
-The parties: we went to all the parties on board. The parties were good, except the pirate party seemed to drag on. The fireworks were pretty awesome though!
-Service: The service was awesome! There were tons and tons of CM's walking around and doing their job. Everytime we saw one they would cheerfully say hello. We even held nice conversations with a few CM's. I really enjoyed hearing their accents and looking at their name tags to see where they were from.
-Other guests: Most of the guests were very nice people and a lot of them were little children. We really enjoyed watching all the children running up to the characters and watching their faces glow as they asked questions.

Thanks for posting your trip report. I was on the Wonder for the Nov 15-19th cruise and had a fantastic time, it was good to hear about someone elses experience.

Just wanted to ask why you would all take the shuttle bus back to the airport for your rental car? You had to pay for that shuttle (about $35 per person)and the rates for the car are more at the airport than getting a car from Cape Canaveral. We also considered doing that but found it to be a much better deal renting a one way car from Cape Canaveral to drop off at MCO (Orlando International). The rental car companies offer a free shuttle service to the rental location about five minutes away from the cruise terminal. We reserved a compact car from Nov 19-Dec 1 for about $280 and when we got there we got a free upgrade to a convertible, which was okay since there were only two of us.

Well, we wouldv'e had to pay for the rental car for the entire time we were on the cruise which wouldv'e ended up more expensive then riding the shuttle. I didn't know you could get a rental car from Cape Canaveral though.

No I didn't mean get a rental car while you were cruising. We took the Disney shuttle from the airport to the Port Canaveral terminal. Then after the cruise used the Budget rental car in Cape Canaveral for a one way rental to be dropped off at MCO. You don't have to purchase a round trip on shuttle from Disney which runs about $70 per person. Rental cars are available from many cities across the country, not just from airports, especially in places with tourist destinations. Cape Canaveral with the beaches, hotels, Kennedy space Center and all the cruise terminals bringing people through the area is sure to have multiple rental cars options as well. Too bad no one had advised you about that before, it could have saved your family a good chunk of change. Well at least you know now when you plan your 2011 cruise!

Yeah, I guess we didn't know or my parents thought it would've been easier to just go to the airport. I'm not sure. Our next cruise will actually be out of LA so we won't have to worry about transportation since we live not too far(: The information is greatly appreciated though!

I enjoyed your report! I must say, for a 14 yr old you have exceptional grammar and spelling. If a report has too many typos or incomplete sentences I find them difficult to read and usually skip them. But your report was great!
