  • Castaway Cay Destroyed?

My neighbor just got back from a weeklong land/sea cruise package... and brought the news that they were not able to disembark at Castaway Cay because it was "destroyed". Has anyone heard anything about this? I believe something like this happened a while back with Hurricane Frances, but I'd be interested to know extents of damage, as well as any estimates of how long it will take to get it back up and running.

    Anyone heard anything?

It hasn't been destroyed. They built what they did there knowing full well that it is prime hurricane country. It was built to withstand hurricanes, and while Irene was a major storm, it wasn't the strongest that has ever blown through that area.

There is probably a lot of stuff that got blown around, tree damage etc, but it isn't destroyed.

Most importantly is the "Flying Dutchmen" ship still there and is it safe?

The Dutchmen has been gone for awhile now...they took it apart before Pirates 4 started filming!

        So...yes. It is safe. Haha

I for one can tell you Castaway Cay is still as beautiful as it's always been. I just got back from there, and if it was destroyed, then that good old Disney magic sure put it back together again! It was as breathtaking as as ever!
