  • [Question] Trying to decide whether or not to take the plunge

I'm very close to buying a DVC membership at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Here's my situation...my husband & I are both in our mid 40's, & we don't have any kids. We love going to WDW...we used to go every year, but now go usually every other year. I'm considering buying 100 points...that way, if we go every other year, we'll pretty much have enough points for a 1 bedroom for about a week. My dilemna is, what if, down the road, we decide it's no longer for us. Exactly, how easy/hard is it to sell your membership on the secondary market?

From what I heard and read, DVC prices are going up, so that should be a good sign.

That is the best thing about a Disney timeshare. There is an active resale market especially for smaller point packages. Unlike most other timeshares, when you buy a DVC, you are not married to it. If, for any reason, you need to sell in the future, you can expect a rather quick sell. Other timeshares, you would be very very very lucky to find a buyer. There are just too many resorts and weeks for buyers to choose from. There is only one Disney and they have quite the built in following. Kinn

My husband and I are also mid 40's. Our son is 15 and only goes with us once a year. Our 20 year old does not go at all. We bought a couple years ago at the lowest level that was 150 points at that time. It was raised to 160 now. Less than a year later, we added 100 points. We now go 4 times a year. 1 full week in the summer and 3 long weekends. We love it! Its so relaxing knowing you do not have to run from attraction to attraction since we know we will be back. Southwest has direct flights from our area for a good price which makes is very doable for us.

i've also been thinking about these timeshares. I would love to know how much the property tax is on a 160 point level. thanks in advance =)

Off topic....is that your back in your avatar? If so, would you mind posting a picture of it in the "show me your tats" (or something like that) thread? It looks amazing!

            Thanks

Thank you. It is my back. It has been a work in progress for the past 11 months. Done for now. I have pictures of various stages posted in an album under my profile. Feel free to take a look. The artist is amazing.

For the person looking for the yearly maint fees, that ends up around $4 per point per year.

Don't forget...there's so much more to do with DVC than just WDW. My friends have gone to London a couple of times and I've gone to Washington DC with our points.

Disney sends out one "Dues" bill in Dec. to owners which includes the maintenance and the taxes for the following year. It is based on which resort you own and is a per point charge.

Below are the 2008 rates. 2009 rates should be out shortly and I will post them.
