    Hi,

Can't address your direct questions, but I thought this official DLRP employment website maybe of interest to you:

        Hi PhantomBoy,

I worked as a Cast Member in both theme parks as part of my university placement a few years ago (I was studying French as my degree) and I'll happily share any information you need. It sounds like you're already working on the main subject you need - a basic grasp of the French language is essential. As for the rest, it all depends on which job you'd like to do. Which area of the resort are you hoping to work in?

An 'A' Level in Surliness would be beneficial.

There are no formal qualifications needed to become a Cast Member, but you need to prove that you can speak at least conversational French. (They'll give you a basic comprehension test at your interview).

Other than that, the best thing you can possibly do is get as much experience working in the customer service industry as you can. Get a part-time job in a local shop or hotel. Demonstrate that you can handle people efficiently and courteously.

You should also be prepared for the fact that you don't get much choice over which area of the park you end up working in. If you tell them you want to work for the Attractions division, you could be put anywhere from Pirates of the Caribbean to Orbitron, to the Mark Twain. Disney will put you where they need you.

The only other thing you need is persistence. I applied three years running before I even got a response to my letters (I REALLY wanted to be a Cast Member!), so if you don't hear back from them at first, don't be too discouraged.

It was a great experience - wherever you work, you'll find yourself shoulder to shoulder with Cast Members from all over the world. Paris is by far the most cosmopolitan of the Disney resorts (even more so than EPCOT), which is its great strength. I worked with some fantastic people, many of whom I am still in contact with, and I learned more French in the space of two months than I had in the previous two years at university.

Be prepared for some very hard work, though. The hours can be very long, and you're on your feet most of the time. The Guests can be awkward, rude or downright violent, and the pay is minimum wage. You do get subsidised meals at the Cast Member cafeteria though, and half your transport costs are reimbursed by the French governemnt each month, so it's not all that bad.

Another problem is the Cast Member accommodation. I won't go so far as to say they're slums, but the worst of them are barely fit for human habitation. That will be less of a problem if you find yourself sharing with a good crowd though. (I didn't, unfortunately, but that's another story).

So that's my DLRP experience in a nutshell. Feel free to let me know if you want any more specific details, and I'll PM you.
