  • [Pictures] Fantasyland Parade Route Refurbishment Update

When we were in DLP this week we made a point of checking out the various refurbishments in progress... and there certainly is a lot going on right now!

The two biggest ones are of course the castle and the Fantasyland Parade route. The parade route refurb has a large area of the park closed off between it's a small world and the Annual Passport office. Also, currently they are in the process of tearing out the stone benches in front of the Castle Stage... what exactly they plan to do here is still a mystery and we aren't sure if the floor refurb will be extended out to include this area as well but it seems likely.

The Fantasyland parade route used to be a solid concrete walkway that over the years has developed a large number of cracks. These cracks along with the corresponding patching resulted in a less than ideal looking walkway. Add in the severe weather wearing away the patches and causing even more cracks and you got areas of loose or missing concrete until they were able to repatch. This of course didn't look great and even worse was dangerous for guests but especially parade performers who could lose their footing or trip in the cracks. Instead of just replacing the concrete it appears Disneyland Paris has decided to use paving stones. This should have two very good effects. First, it should look much nicer than just concrete (and look much more "Fantasyland like"). Second, it should be much less prone to the cracking than large areas of concrete and therefore should be able to hold up much better during the harsh winters. In addition, since they will be small paving stones, if one should break it should be a much easier task to replace it and have it look as good as new.

Here are some pictures of the ongoing work which showing the new paving... it seems like they are making pretty good progress!

    Have a magical day!
