News Ratatouille : E-ticket ride and restaurant (opening 2014)

The Ratatouille area (including an immersive E-ticket dark-ride in trackless Enhanced Motion Vehicles with 3D projections, a table service restaurant, a fastpass distribution area, toilets and a Parisian-themed street) will open in 2014. This ride is going to be AWESOME.

Although this is good news and exciting and all that (despite the massive debts that DLP currently have), I must admit to be slghtly disappointed by the phrase '3D projections'.

So does this mean that the characters will be a la Crush's Coaster? Is anybody else saddened by the decline in the use of real-life actual AAs? DL's TLM ride has proven that far from being dead, they are actually more impressive than ever (when done right).

Are these projections cheaper than AAs? I assume they are. But they are not the same IMO.

^I think the 3D projections are supposed to be in the domes which have been rumored since the start of this project (think Harry Potter And The Forbidden Journey) for fast action scenes. It would be a wast of space to build those fully out in fiscal sets. And the rats having fur is also something that makes me think we will have them as AA's (it would be really hard to do a face projection on a fur surface I think, could be wrong though) We'll have to wait and see^^

Don't worry. They can use 3D projections and audio-animatronics. This is not going to be a cheap ride : Remember the cost of the ride is approximately 150 millions € (+/- 185 millions $). This is going to be THE attraction of Disneyland Paris. DLP has debts and doesn't have an excellent management but DLP still has great projects, which are of course very rare compared to the very innovative Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

You can compare this ride to The Amazing Adventure of Spider-Man in Orlando (for the projections), Pooh's Hunny Hunt in Tokyo (for the trackless system) and Indiana Jones Adventure (for the EMV technology) : Those rides are great ones, aren't they?

Projections make it easier to create fast, natural movements, mainly for talking and facial movements, but they are not the only tech used nowadays. In a video about New Fantasyland, they show both Lumiere and the Wardrobe interacting with the crew present. While Lumiere is half AA/half animatronic, the wardrobe has a fully animatronic head and for what you could see, she looked very realistic while waffling on as she does. I believe it's the same material and tech used for the AAs in the little mermaid ride, namely Ursula.

It'd be a shame if it didn't have at least some AA's in it. Just seems like tradition to have them these days. But then Joe Public doesn't always care for tradition in their theme park visit.

I would think that projections would prove to be cheaper in the long run because AA's probably would require more taking care of and repairs, which can be very costly in the long run .

- The ride will be equipped with a stand-by line, a fastpass line and a single rider line.
- The project gathers an E-ticket ride, a table service restaurant, toilets, a square with a fountain and possibly a shop.
- The area will be themed to a cartoon-style Paris (the one people can see in the movie Ratatouille).
- The costuming building will be hidden by Parisian fronts.
- The restaurant will likely be named "La Ratatouille" and will be an amazing restaurant with an innovative concept.
- The work name of the ride "Ratatouille Kitchen Calamity" is not the final name.
- Guests will have to wear 3D glasses.
- Guests will encounter Gusteau's ghost in the waiting lines.
- Guests will be reduced to the size of a rat.
- The loading area will be on the roofs of Paris.
- The trackless vehicules will be designed for 6 persons.
- The vehicles will be themed to a rat, will have a rotation function, and will have hydraulic cylinders
- The adventure will summarize the story of the movie, but will mostly happen in the kitchen where Linguini is working.
- The ride will mix 3D-projections and dark-ride decors. Be ready to be fully immersed at the heart of action.
- A frozen freezer, a hot oven and a pursuit on a kitchen trolley are waiting for you.
- The 3D will be made by Pixar.

It sounds very exciting!

We've learned that the vehicles will be Enhanced Motion Vehicles (just like Indiana Jones Adventure !!), but trackless.

The more I hear the more I'm getting excited for it. Sounds like this will become the jewel in WDS' crown, if not the resort.

Yes it is. I'm upset not to read more reactions and that people seem to ignore this piece of information, because I consider that as a major information, even if it concerns a non-American resort. Please remember that it's not weird to imagine this ride at EPCOT one day (because it seems they'd like to replace "Impression de France" one day). This ride is apparently not meant to remain exclusive to Paris forever.

The ride won't be as good as The Amazing Adventure of Spider-Man. It will be better!
