2012?

Hello gang!

I just realized that the vote for the 2012 Olympics is July 6th. In the running are Madrid, London, Paris, and New York City. Dare i suggest the Walt Disney Co. rooting for Paris? DLP celebrates its 20th birthday in 2012 and the Summer Olympics would be a fantastic boon for business over there.

Any thoughts?

^^^Great point. But any of those European cities would likely bring an upswing in attendance at DLP. So I guess all-American Mickey has quite the difficult decision -- does he pull for NYC (like he should) or think with his wallet?

I agree. But who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.

Personally, I prefer the games to be any where but here in UK, but any city in Europe can only be good news for DLRP.

I'd expect Disney to get involved if Paris is chosen.
(Special pins etc and who knows, maybe Team Mickey will go back to being a beautifully themed sports store instead of a discount clothing warehouse...)

I was in paris in march. There were neon lights/ flags/ tons of paris 2012 stuff. I think it is a really popular candidate! New York is also real close (to my oppinion, paris wins).

America has have the Olympics too many times, give other places a chance.

The last time it was in the UK was 1908 & 1948.

And since NYC is the center of the world, whether folks like it or not, having the Olympics there makes some sense. Although I can imagine the venues spread out into CT and NJ ... and logistics would be a nightmare.

but, hey, I remember when Orlando actually thought it had a shot at the Olympics ... imagine a little tourist backwater with strip centers, fast-food outlets and 7-11s as far as the eye can see thinking it's a world-class city ... that's wild.

Who the hell made New York the center of the world? Because the United Nations is headquartered there? Whatever, as far as I am concerned, there is NO center of the world. And if there was one, it wouldn't be in the USA as many people like to believe.

Phft, New York hasn't been the acknowledged center of the world since the mid-20th Century. And the Olympics being held there is more of a logistical nightmare than I'd care to imagine.

It would be nice for DLP to get the boost it needs from Olympics nearby. Who knows? If Paris wins the bid, maybe some new attraction capital will find its way to the Park.

NYC won USA's vote.. (Tampa and orlando were up gainst them and had a good thing... thought one key component wont happen from it... that darn rail.. I hated it.)

I would enjoy it in NYC.. but if it were in London... Call me.. I would be there in a short amount of time.. (and looking for olde Doctor Who memorabilia from the olde series..)

Nice to see another Who fan on these boards! I visited the BBC Wales offices (where the new series is made) this week, on a quest for more info, but to no avail. They're keeping things top secret!

Too bad my PBS doesn't show it anymore... they shown in it movie format for 3 years.. then in episode format.. then stopped.... I "now" can sponsor the show i watched thought... I wish some channel picked it up here... Wasn't Sci-fi offered it but turned it down... not enough time and money left after Batle star galatica....(I hear a summer run on NBC soon.. mabey they will get time and money then..)
