  • Th Little Mermaid: The Ride

    Phase II of Euro Disneyland featured two dark-rides preminently focused on the new animated features "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Mermaid": the first would have been built just in front of "It's a Small World", the second would have risen along the italian street opposite to "Pizzeria Bella Notte" and Fantasia Gelati.

    There were only a few pictures captured from the Euro Disneyland tv special that was aired back in 1992 until now...

    The Little Mermaid DVD Special Edition features an incredible in-depth view of the attraction that almost was built featuring:
    • An introduction by Walt Disney Imagineering;
    • Storyboard of the attraction;
    • Model of the attraction (ext. & int.);
    • Blueprint of the attraction;

    You'll have the chance to see Tony Baxter, who directed the artistic conception of Euro Disneyland and was in charge of Fantasyland, talking about the ride, you'll see the model of the building and to the dar-ride itself, concepts, storyboards and a full CG rendition of the dark-ride to enjoy as many times as you like.

    If you love Disneyland Paris and always wanted to kow more about the attraction that were planned and never got built, you definetely have to buy this dvd: this special feature alone is already worth the dvd itself!

        I read somewhere that when the park first opened it didn't meet its expectations in guest numbers and money. Thats why it wasnt built. Pretty dumb of them if you ask me.

        And yes you can find basically anything on youtube. A video of the ride for those who don't have the dvd.
        Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

          As BackIntoYourSystem, it was for finacial reasons. Euro Disney S.C.A., the owners of the Paris property, nearly went bankrupt after the opening of Euro Disneyland. The financial situation of the company was simply a mess, and remains so to this day.

            Wow just seen the youtube.com video thanks for sharing.

            That was ausome and now thats its been revealed on DVD it will unlikely ever make it to a Disney theme park now but it would of made a cool addition I think to the new Hong Kong Disneyland which is rather short on dark rides at the mo.And soo needs more money poured into that park.

              But, considering the cost of the ride when they bankrolled $200 million to add capacity they added rides trying to get the most in for thier money...meaning the $30 million LM ride was left out.

                I belive Crush's Coaster will use similar but improved "water" technology as this Little Mermaid -ride.

                  Re: Th Little Mermaid: The Ride

                  While I was *very* excited to see this feature on the DVD, I wonder if this means they've given up on the concept as an actual park attraction. That would be a shame; the ride concept is really cool and I'd love to see it realized.

                  The 'what could have been' potential for DLP is incredible. If the finances hadn't gone south I feel that it would, by now, be by far the most incredible MK in the world.

                    Thanks for the link that looks like it coud have been a great ride (and it still could be). Looks like it could be as much fun as Peter Pan at DLR. DCA could use more dark rides.

                    Of course if we had a Disneyland here in Canada, Sebastion's last quote would probably sound like "And remember, the weed is always greener here in BC!":lol:
