  • TDLFAN's DLP Halloween photos/report

Yours truly was fortunate enough to visit DLP this past Friday Oct 6th and attended a very special preview of this year's Halloween parade "La Parade Des Mechants" or Villains' Parade.

As has been the case, DLP is once again overtaken by those ugly pumpkin men props that are simply messy and a bit too garrish in regards to the overall feel of the park. This is most obvious on Main Street and Frontierland. I personally do not care for this overlay since it just feels as generic as anything you can find in any other theme park around. But hey.. some claim this is what rocks the locals' senses, then so be it. But honestly, I feel it misses the mark in regards to this being a "disney" park.

Anyhow... The parade is cute but I felt it didn't live up to the standards I remember when I first saw it several years ago...as if some of the moving props had been replaced with just walking characters who were not even in halloween outfits or costumes.. A major fauz-pas for a "seasonal event" parade. Still, it's nice to see a villains' take on the same old tired floats we have been seeing for over a decade at DLP. This park is so ripe for a brand new parade.. and I sure hope the 15th anniversary delivers on that need.

Anyways... since not much related to halloween was going on since the event didn't officially begin until the next day when I was there... I took some photos from around the park, inside IASW, and even from the neighboring Walt Disney Studios Paris, where a lot of construction is underway in preparation for the TOT and Toon Studios.

Here are the photos... for your enjoyment.

I saw the Pumpkin props last year and both my wife and I thought they were pretty cool. Added a fun Halloween look to the place.

The parade looks very similar to last years, Chip and Dale seem to have lost their ghost costumes, and Donald seems to have gained a white sheet covering his Devil ears and jacket which is a shame because Donald looked excellent.

          Love the pics, again, TDLFan!

I don't care for the "pumpkin men" thing either. Blech!
And the "Spilled orange paint" thing is one of THE worst
decorations I've ever seen. And that "broken bench" set
decoration on Main Street is horrible too. (Thank goodness
DL Anaheim got used TDL Halloween decorations instead
of DLP! How can such a beautiful park use such ugly
          decorations??

The "Ursula" on the Float is laughable! She looks like
Heat Miser in drag! ugly outfit.

Re Sylvester Stallone moonlighting as Gaston,
actually it's Donny Osmond in make up! tee hee hee

The castle looks as beautiful as ever, but if I ever visit
DLP, remind me to avoid going during the fall. Most
of the decorations really are awful.
Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. Ya can't cover pooh with honey and 'spect people ta like it.

Thanks for the photos TDLFAN. I don't like much Halloween decorations, especially those in Frontierland.
Fortunately, it only last one month.
            Then comes Christmas !

                Re: TDLFAN's DLP Halloween photos/report

I think the lengths this park has gone to for the decorations is more then admirable and puts other MKs to shame. You may not like the decorations themselves (I do, but thats besides the point) but you cannot say that they cheaped out on this one. Thats what I call an overlay.

Now if cash-strapped Euro Disney SCA can do that, what's Daddy Warbucks WDW doing? (That was a rhetorical question Mr. TDLFAN )
And also, as you said, if this is what pulls the locals in (which is more important than anything else), this is what should stay.

PS - I don't like the mixing of the Xmas and Halloween decor either. They could at least light up the chandeliers in orange or something at night to make it clearly Halloween. But, this is the cash-strapped EDSCA! Maybe it was cheaper to put them all up at once.

I really like the picture where it looks like the Castle is coming out of the pumpkin.

And I don't recall saying it either, but I sure hope it brings home the point I have been making aboout WDW all along... cheap, cheap, cheap and way way way overrated. And who's that funny but odd looking female in your avatar...?

They are nice decorations for what they are trying to do, but they are not "Disney" to me, which is what TDR does best in their seasonal decor.
