That's a shame. I was thinking if it were true, I might go to Euro Disney just for the DVD. I guess I'll have to get the vcr fixed.

No, very true. The home releases have all been tape or laserdisc. None have been DVD yet.

disney announced about 6 or 7 years ago it will never be rereleased in any domestic markets again.

which is why there was a huge ammount of hype around the dvd release announced last year

have a vhs copy though, its not a great film if im honest.

Neither are "Bednobs and Broomsticks" or "So Dear myHeart" But they are part of my collection. I have SOTS on VHS, but the humidity in Hong Kong plays havoc with them. I was hoping to get a copy on DVD before It dies. I can't copy mine even for my own use, everytime I try, I get snow. I think it has one of those non-copy features in it. That is why when I heard/read that it was for sale in Paris I thought I would ask. I really don't want to pay US$40 for a bootleg when my VHS didn't cost me that much.

Disney is making a huge mistake not releasing this again. I watched it a few months ago when someone had the whole movie up on YouTube. I found absolutely nothing offensive in it. Makes you wonder what kind of crack the boys in Burbank are smoking.

They had the whole thing ready for release until Iger put the kabosh on it once he took over--which is a jumbo bummer. Great movie.
If you watch the new "Your Host, Walt Disney" DVD, there is an interview with Diane Disney-Miller and there is a color clip of behind-the-scenes work on Song of the South.

i think they were planning on releaseing the original version, set in context
the version on vhs which shows up on ebay and was sold in europe was editied down taking out some of the more offensive bits (apparently removed in the 60/70s)

My VHS version was sold here in Hong Kong about 12 years ago. Am I missing something? What is offensive abut it. What was removed? I saw it as a kid back in the 70's at one point. I don't get it. I am sure it would fly off the shelves if rereleased.

There are many second-hand VHS copies of "Mélodie du sud" available on internet :

I never heard of a DVD release yet.

Both of those movies have been released to DVD officially... in fact, they released an extended version of Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
