  • DLP and WDS smoke-free as of 03-01, smoking areas announced

Just thought I'd post a little update on the smoking situation at DLP, since I haven't seen this in English anywhere just yet. So here it is, the list of designated smoking areas that will be enforced as of April 1 2008.

    Maps here.

    Disneyland Park:

    MAIN STREET, U.S.A.
    - Entrance (between turnstiles and Main Street Station next to toilets)
    - Arboretum (next to City Hall)
    - Central Plaza (near Discoveryland entrance)
    FRONTIERLAND
    - Covered walkway near the restrooms of Fort Comstock
    - Area in front of Pocahontas Indian Village, outside former Pueblo Trading Post gift shop
    ADVENTURELAND
    - Unused terrace area facing Restaurant Hakuna Matata
    - Adventureland exit of Au Chalet de la Marionette, a covered walkway
    FANTASYLAND
    - In the former queue of Les Pirouettes du Vieux Moulin
    DISCOVERYLAND
    - Near the restrooms of Autopia
    - At the entrance of Pizza Planet

(This is quite a number, compared to the three designated areas at Disneyland. But then again, even with all the new rules, this still isn't California...)

    Walt Disney Studios:

    FRONT LOT
    - Place des Freres Lumiere (entrance plaza) (next to stroller rental)
    TOON STUDIO
    - Between Art of Disney Animation and Cars
    PRODUCTION COURTYARDBACKLOT
    - Between Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and the Stunt Show

Now let's just hope they theme the signs properly... And, on a more cynical note, that people will actually obey the rules.

Finally a control in that matter.

Although it might look like a lot of places it isn't I think. The magic kingdom as a some also, not only 3 like in Disneyland.

But this is a good move for DLP.

It will be interesting to see how well they enforce these as the only smoking locations.

So will these areas be cornered off, as I have a bad feeling we are going to see a bunch of Europeans all standing next to each other in the street smoking away every few feet.

While I applaude DLP's much neede action to curtail smoking at DLRP.. it will be an uphill battle. Guests there are not the type to be told what to do and will continue to smoke no matter what.. unless the CMs come down hard on the matter.
Besides... no Disney park will be considered a true non-smoking park as long as they continue to tickle smokers' fancies by providing "smoking areas". Those, I would love to see eliminated as well. Go smoke on the parking lot please.

I remember when I created this thread, I thought, "gee, TDLFAN will be pleased with this".

Well...I'm not sure in my recent past trips I've been bothered by smokers. I was happy once it had been banded from Queues and Resturants. My fear about these new areas is that many of them are by toilets and you will have to hold your breath and run in. Certainly in the UK now you get a good dose of smoke walking into public buildings. I find myself strangely in agreement with TDLFAN. Perhaps this could be a way for the Management to save money...put all the smokers in a little room under Space Mountain and use their smoke as the cannon effect. I'm normally holding my breath as it lanches anyway.

Re: DLP and WDS smoke-free as of 03-01, smoking areas announced

I don't really have the energy to post a 1000 word reply and start a discussion like those on other forums, where certain members went as far as to include none less than the Nazis and Al Qaeda in their analogies... There are worse things in life, after all. But I believe smoking in queues has been prohibited from Euro Disneyland's first day of operation and we all know that hasn't prevented people from lighting up (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, you name it, someone smokes it) in the cramped queues of supposedly child-friendly Fantasyland.

As long as smoking "out in the open" is allowed, people with tobacco addictions will continue to stretch its definition as if it were a piece of nicotine gum. A covered queue is sort of outside, after all, and so is anything with an open door... The new rule will be a lot easier to oversee and enforce.

And as for banning it from the resort completely barring the parking lot -- that notion is obviously too ridiculous to address without the sarcasm I so wish to use but will be shot for if I do.

I do however share the minor fear of having to walk through clouds of smoke on each trip to the bathroom, and regret the prospect of seeing the wonderful, quiet Fort Comstock-Adventureland walkway converted into Smokers Central.

Well with all the April fools day pranks going on, we have forgotten to mention that today is the start of the smoking Ban at Disneyland Resort Paris. The DLRP website has been updated http://news.disneylandparis.co.uk/index.xhtml

Anyone who's visiting the parks over the next few days feel free to let us know how the ban is working.

Apparently day 1 of the smoking ban wasn't a huge success. Most of the trash cans around the parks still have their built-in ashtrays and smoking signs (the kind without the big red line striking through the cigarette) on them, suggesting of course that one can smoke around such a trash can. Moreover, according to the latest map, one of Adventureland's smoking areas is located on the Pont Suspendu (suspension bridge).

Can't really blame the guests this time...

i don't think French and Europeans will respect this rule .

As a french i can say that European are not very respectful sometimes .

That is good that DLRP finally decided to enforced the smoking rules .

So it looks like DLRP has placed a smoking ban without thinking the whole process through, brilliant.

Seems like I'm still missing the point.
Where is the problem to set the whole park smokefree?
Even Legoland Germany managed to ban smoking from the whole park.
I know Legoland is a very, very small park compared with DLRP, but if such a small park can do the trick, why not a big one like DLRP?
Are they afraid of loosing guests?

Have you ever been on a long flight with a smoker? They get very cranky if they don't get their nicotine. In order to keep the happiest places on earth happy, one needs a couple of smoking areas.

And I think it's even more important because DLP is such a large park; people tend to spend all day in it.
