[Chat] Bizarre Thing Happened Last Night at the Matterhorn

So my boyfriend and I are waiting to board on the Matterhorn, just directed by a female Cast Member. A few people after us, she declares that she is going home and that everyone in line can seat themselves, and she leaves.

None of the other Cast Members seemed to be phased by this and just continued on as usual.

I wonder if she just decided to quit or what, but it was very strange...

That's...dramatic. A big THANK YOU goes to the other CMs who didn't make a bigger scene out of it, though.

That is the most bizarre thing I've heard. Did people start actually seating themselves or didn't you get a chance to see? When you got off was there someone working there then? Maybe she was just joking because she knew her shift replacement just arrived. If not, think of the safety issues.

maybe her shift was over and she just said that as a joke, cause i say thing like that at work im like hmm i think im just gonna go home you everyone can ring them self up. But its a joke cause my shift is over

Interesting. Not long ago, I was waiting in line at the Matterhorn near the loading area when I easily overheard a female CM speaking openly to another CM about all the silly/stupid things that guests tend to do, apparently referring to a group that was just about to board the ride (they couldn't hear her but plenty of other guests could). The other CM listened but did not respond. I was going to say something about her lack of professionalism (in the form of friendly "advice"), but she was actually quite helpful and polite to guests to whom she was attending, so I just let it slide. The only other thing I recall now is that she had an unusual name...begins with a "W" I think.

Some people just get to a point where they can no longer manage the stress and demand of their lives or jobs and just reach this point where they just need to get out of the environment they're in. It's probably to all of us at time or another.

People actually started lining up where they intended to sit. I didn't look to see if she or someone else came back to the spot to assign seating.

It would be odd if that's when her shift ended, since it must have been about 11:20 p.m...the park's closing was at midnight.

I went on the Matterhorn once when we had to seat ourselves...there were no CM's there to do it! I was in shock...but all the guests handled it normally and organized so it was fine

Not necessarily. As the end-of-day approaches attractions start to shed a few CM's who aren't needed for closing since extra cm's are no longer to provide breaks to other Cast Members. It's not atypical for a few CM's to be off at around an hour of closing.

Wow.. i'd have no clue where to sit or how to do it. Seems like a huge safety issue. If nobody else was seating people then wither her relief wasn't doing his/her job or wasn't even there!

I've also been to the Matterhorn before when there was no grouper. Each time I've seen it has been within the opening hour or the closing hour. I would guess that it is an extra position to improve efficiency at the busy times of the day, but when running trains under full capacity, there is enough time for the cast member opposite the tracks at load to make sure that guests board properly.

I guess she was just frustrated!!!...or she had to go home...but that was kinda dramatic for her to just announce that!!

I've seen a change of positions on the Matterhorn where they are working a skeleton crew, causing a rotation where there is no seater. It works fine because people can usually sit themselves fine. There are loading gates and cm's on the track so if somethig was going on that cm on the track could intervein or direct. All the greeter does is give a number anymore. Someone else tells you to get it/out. The whole system is so self explanatory and idiot proof now that there's really no reason to have one IMO.
