  • [Idea] Bringing back the Tahitian Terrace

I would love to see this restaurant return to Adventureland as a "priority seating" dining option. It seems like this would be of significant interest to both the WDI and finance guys at DL given the recent makeover of Cafe Orleans to a "priority seating" joint. Why not put another one in the Park?

My suggestion would be to use the existing structure provided by the Carnation Cafe (please, don't throw anything at me just yet!) Carnation Cafe has been closed as a dining option for quite some time now. But I know there's sentimentality among many DLers for it. Why not keep the Facade on Main St., but gut the inside and turn it into Tahitian Terrace? This would avoid completely losing the Carnation Cafe (really, keeping it effectively the same as it is currently) while bringing back a familiar attraction. The former "Aladdin's Storytime" area (now used for Indy) could be made over to serve as the front of the restaurant.

I think the idea of converting this area to TT has been floated around here before. Just wondering if other people would be receptive to it?

As an aside, I'd really like to see a well-themed priority seating establishment on the OTHER side of the Park somewhere (could something be built over the old Lagoon area now used for smokers?) It would help balance things out a bit, but since I love things polynesian, TT would be my first choice.

Of course, maybe DL could just re-open CC as a "priority seating" joint??

Since when did the Carnation Cafe Close? Just ate there a couple of weeks ago!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

I ate there yesterday as a matter of fact! But to the point, not so sure about gutting the restaurant. Why couldn't Disney just re-open it the way it was back in the good ol' days?

I just ate at Carnation Cafe three weeks ago, and unless there has been an unplanned closure it should still be open. Maybe you mean the cafe that has the pin trading in front that is currently under construction?

I thought that the original TT was where the Tiki Room is now...

The Tiki Room and Tahitian Terrace restaurant co-existed. Tahitian Terrace was located in the same spot where Aladdin's Oasis is currently. I haven't been in Aladdin's Oasis lately (only back when it was a short-lived dinner show), but it has the same floorplan from the Tahitian Terrace days. Nothing has been reconfigured. There have only been cosmetic changes to the facility.

I think the Tahitian Terrance and the Plaza Pavillion shared the same kitchen.

DOH! You are all correct. In my hazy morning memory I saw "Plaza Pavilion" and called it Carnation Cafe. PLease forgive the nasty faux pax. (I most recent ate at Carnation Cafe this spring and still gotta hand it to them for that crazy "french toast" of theirs!)

Plaza Pavilion (geez, what's wrong with me).

Plaza Pavilion and Tahitian terrace sharing a kitchen seems like it makes it only a more natural fit to retrofit a Tahitia Terrace restaurant into the current Plaza Pavilion building, no?

Yes...i think they should bring the Tahitian Terrace back.....I'm in full agreement with that - and for the record, Plaza Pavillion as well.....

I loved the Tahitian Terrace and the fire dance entertainment. I think I remember eating something wrapped in grape leaves?

It would be a dream if they brought it back!

That's what I hope for. I miss everything about the old Tahitian Terrace: the food, the atmosphere, the table service, and the live performances.

Amen. Dinners with the live shows were great, but my all time favorite was lunch -- on a hot summer day nothing beat it. The waterfall cooled the tree-shaded dining area... the Jungle Cruise boats cruised by (skips would make jokes about you if they saw you at the waterfront tables)... the sound effects from JC blended with Polynesian music from the Terrace... hands down, the ultimate Tiki experience!
