  • Whats Missing From This Picture? A TOMORROWLAND Inquiry.

We all know whats really missing from TL... Quality Attractions, Vision, Identity, Old Glory, Better Days Gone By, The Good Ol Days, but Lets not get into a discussion about these obvious neglections and focus on the NOW!

Take a look at these two (2) pictures of TL taken Thurs Aug 18th. Whats missing?

(I tried to adjust the pictures I took so they would be clearer and easier to see. Apparently im not very good at taking or editing pictures, sorry.)

Theres plenty of people. That awkward wet marble ball is still there. Thankfully the Pizza Port is still intact. Space Mountain checks out... so what is it. Look closely and youll notice the trees in the giant concrete pots that surrounded what used to be "Cosmic Waves" are suddenly MIA! And good ridence too. I felt they were cumbersome and intrusive. They didnt even provide good shade. They were an eye sore and felt out of place. Everytime i saw them id wish they would go away. So when i noticed their absence i couldnt help but feel relieved.

What do you think... Did you like the trees? Did you think they served as good Fung Sheu? Or did you despise and loath them as an un-neccessary accessory? Discuss...

I was there on the 20th and didn't even notice. The future was looking grim for all of treekind.

I was going to say PeopleMover until I saw you were talking about... potted plants.

I never noticed they were there, and I never noticed they were gone. I guess I was too busy having fun with my family. Might want to try that sometime.

Those small light posts are a bit annoying, though. I can imagin navigating through a crowd and slamming into one of those things.. that'll ruin your day... not to mention possibly eliminate the posibility of children in your future. Ouch!

Plants aren't gone. They went into refurbishment. They really should add to the closed attractions list "COMSIC TREES" ...

Poor trees, I actually did notice in your pictures that they were gone. I know they didn't provide much shade, but trees take time to get bigger and possibly "significant." Plus, along Reaver's lines, they made you aware to look out for things in your way (like those knee-high posts.

I noticed they were gone last weekend. Right before some girl splashed Cosmic Waves at her friend and hit me in the face instead.

Thanks for the photos, WRDest79. I don't mean to derail this thread, but looking at those images... and from my own personal observation of TL: what is missing from Tomorrowland is a sense of grandeur. For instance... in your first shot, look at the puny little Coca Cola rocket ship. Now look at a blast from the past:
That, sir... is a ROCKET SHIP!

Or how about the second shot of the wet marble. What used to be there?

OK...don't get me wrong. I don't want to get off onto some rant about how things were always better in the old days, but prior to 1998, Disneyland's view of the future included a sense of awe and wonder. I miss that.

OH...btw: I'm glad those stupid trees are gone too!

I was really just poking fun at the trees being gone (although I really am glad they are). I totally agree with you. I guess thats what I have been trying to say you know in other posts and what-not. Theres nothing special about the place. Theres no "WOW" factor. And for the record the pre-cosmic waves/magic eye theater... way better than the current situation.

Back on topic: I hope the trees are just out for a re-furb. If they want trees and green why not stick some plants on top of the Star Trader/ Starcade. Imagineers could make it look real lush and colorfull kinda like oliver Stone did with Babylon in Alexander with hanging gardens and what-not. not to say that the future holds a baylonian type quality but looking toward the future it should be clear to everyone that salvaging the environment and embracing our natural surroundings should be a focal point of our progress. Disney should initiate some sort of integration of technology with nature.

Whoa... that idea came from no where.

Anyway Im glad those particular trees are out of the way and I hope they do not make an encore appearance!

They sure do make nice, warm seats on cool nights.
