  • [Question] What is the difference between the 2 styles of the SBC Walkthrough?

    I need help here.

What are the differences between the original style and the more modern style of the sleeping beauty castle walk through???

Also, can someone pin point for me what will be different when the diorama reopens later this year (As in how will the displays be changed, ect.)

    Thanks!

"The crafting of the 1957 walkthrough show fell to Walt Disney Imagineer Ken Anderson and animation art director and color stylist Eyvind Earle, credited with giving the motion picture “Sleeping Beauty” the distinctive and colorful look of storybook illustrations in medieval style. An entirely new look appeared in 1977 when the attraction’s redesign featured miniature dioramas, including moving figurines similar to the window displays in the shops on Main Street, U.S.A."

"When the attraction is unveiled later this year, the “show” will differ from the dioramas of the 1980s and ‘90s, returning to the unique style of the original 1957 show and motion picture. Enhanced with new scenes and special effects magic, the re-Imagineered attraction will employ technology not available in the 1950s to represent scenes from the story of Sleeping Beauty, including the magic of good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, and the more sinister spells of the evil Maleficent."

As long as it's not a stroll past nothing but TV screens...
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

ORDDU: Even though my sisters and I hadn't been created, yet, we had visited the original Sleeping Beauty Castle in 'spirit form' way back in 1969 and were able to experience the walk thru then.

ORWEN: It seems to me that the story of Sleeping Beauty wasn't played out in any paticular order--which would have been confusing to anybody who hadn't seen the movie. There was an echo chamber where you could call out and hear your own voice being played back at you.

ORGOCH: Yeah an' some kid's yelled out things we cain't repeat here an' now! Dang dirty Dip sticks!!

ORDDU: I recall that some of the scenes almost came across as being stained glass windows--but they really weren't. They were like illuminated paintings.

ORWEN: And most of the pictures were too small to have bee seen by more than maybe two or three people at a time.

ORGOCH: I remembers a key hole ya got ta look through an' see a bunch a spinnin' wheels goin' 'round 'n round. If'n ya stared at it too long, ya got dizzy!! But then this IS Dizzyland we's talkin' 'bout, ain't it?

ORDDU: Only in your case, dear. In any event, there were other features that have faded in our minds as the years have passed. Frankly, the updated version of the castle walk through had some improvements over the original. At the same time, even those improvements became dated over time. So it sounds as though Tony Baxter's vision is the perfect balance for this charming attraction. We can't wait to see it ourselves!!

Witches, it's so funny. I thought I totally forgot about this attraction but every now and then someone brings something up that I totally remember. Like the spinning wheels! I can't wait for this attraction to reopen, spinning wheels or not!

I would not worry about that considering Tony Baxter is in charge and not Tom "Video Screens Rule" Fitzgerald.

Nobody knows. Read the various articles to which merlinjones has been posting links over in the main Sleeping Beauty (merged) thread, and you know as much as anyone.

Wow, that doll Aurora from 1977 looks creepy, & not at all like Aurora.
