  • [Question] "Best of the Land" has been Sold

Does anyone remember a painting in the Art Of Disneyland titled Best of the Land by Rich Tuzon? I loved this painting. I viewed every week. And last week it was sold. I was just wondering if anyone else was a fan of this painting.

    Specs where:

    Framed Original
Medium: Acrylic, Oil on Maple Wood
    Retail: $3,100
    Framed Dimensions: 18" x 24"

    Micenation

That's a really interesting painting but I don't recall seeing it before. It's a little too out there for my tastes.

Beautiful . Great sense of the mythic feel of the Disneyland mountains. I've never seen it before. Where was it displayed?

I was also wondering when it was painted - whether Splash Mountain was not there yet, or was deliberately excluded. (Unless it's in there and I'm not seeing it.)

Is that supposed to be the Matterhorn, or the Paramount mountain?

It's the Paramount Mountain. You can tell because Harold has horns.

          Sarcasm? Sure we've got that.

            Me? Sarastic?

I prefer to think of myself as pointedly honest.

But seriously, I guess there's no accounting for taste. $3,100 for an 18" x 24" painting that looks like a 12-year-old painted it?

            Hoo-boy.

Why is Sulley on top of Mt. Hood? I'm confused.

I have to say that, even as an artist, I don't understand spending $3,100 (or more) for any one painting (I sure wouldn't mind getting it for one of mine, though - one of the drawbacks of being a digital artist is that there is no "original" to sell, only prints.)

Now that I look at it, the mountain is too brown for DL's Matterhorn, and not exactly the right shape, but that could be artistic liscence.

However, you must know some very talented 12 year olds .

There's plenty of them. This one has more talent in her little finger than Tuzon.

                    Yes, she is very talented.

If there are "plenty" of talented 12 year olds, then "it looks like a 12 year old painted it" was actually a compliment?

(BTW, I'm not familiar with Tuzon's work. This is the first of his I've seen.)

I didn't say ALL 12-year olds were talented. But there are lots that do have talent. And if Tuzon was attempting to mimic the style of *most* 12 year olds, he succeeded.

I mean, Like Tuzon, my four-and-a-half year old can draw a triangle and call it a mountain.

It's a little more detailed than "a triangle." It has texture. (However, I think it's possible in the realm of art to draw a triangle and successfully have it be interpreted as a mountain, if it's done right )

My point is, it doesn't even look like the Matterhorn--either Disney's or the real thing. Show the mountain to a non-Disney person, and he'd have no idea what mountain it was supposed to represent.

I guess I just prefer my paintings--even of fantasy scenes--to be done in a little more realistic style.

FWIW, after doing a bit or research it appears that Tuzon's predominate style leans toward "comic book" type illustrations.

Not my cup of tea for a $3,100 painting. But like I said, there's no accounting for taste.

Interesting painting... the colors are too muted for my taste. The price tag is pretty huge for the painting! Wow. O_o
