  • [Fun] Suburban Legends - Tomorrowland Terrace Aug 6-7

always a treat when these guys come by and i always see them when they play at the park. Honestly, they're the best shows they ever put on

if you haven't seen them before, SL is a 7 piece ska band from the OC area that have been playing at the DLR since 2003. they used to play out in DTD in front of ESPN Zone until the crowds had gotten too big it became a fire harzard.

They cover alot of great songs in addition to playing their own. "Can't Wait to Be King" is a real popular one followed by "Under the Sea". unfortunately they don't play "Gummi Bears" anymore. that was classic.

i enjoy these shows the most because i love seeing people who arent normally exposed to a band such as this (tourists mostly) get totally caught up in the excitement of the band and join us (the SL groupies and ska fans with DL passes) on the dance floor.

hopefully i wont be the only Micechatter there cause these are shows you just cant miss and is a great example of Disney getting excellant, guest satisfying outside entertainment

They used to be a good band until they decided to start playing funk-pop crap. Everything post-Rump Shaker has been awful.

Never heard of them before, I usually avoid the music in TL and just go on attractions...

Maybe I will do a walk by when they're playing

I think the Tomorrowland Terrace itself is cool in terms of design and concept, but I'm just not fond of the music itself. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense thematically, which would be tolerable if I really enjoyed the music in the first place...but I don't. =/

Hrm....I'm closing those nights. Might have to make sure I'm out on GC at least one of those evenings instead of being inside a sub.

Music from TLT doesn't sound too good inside the sail.

true in a sense. while its not my favorite, i still listen to it.

their new cd has gone back to their ska roots, so it wont hurt to give them a chance if you're a fan

This may be the wrong forum for this discussion, but oh well.

I've heard the new cd and there are only 2 songs that would really qualify as "ska", "Girls Got What I Want" and "Getting Down to Business." Everything else is more of the same. I can't say I've ever been a huge fan, they've always been a little too poppy for me. But they're not coming close to the quality of songs like "Bright Spring Morning" or "I Want More."

true, its a slight derailing so lets finish our discussion.

i agree with you that there hasnt been a "Bright Spring Morning" in sometime, but you have to give them credit as artists for trying something new as well. Plus theres been so many lineup changes over the years and espescially since Dallas died that there was bound to be some kind of change as well.

Ska isnt as big anymore since they started. (hell, wasnt it on the way out?) so it makes sense to me for them to try different genres and just do what they think is fun. They've always been the "boy-band of Ska", so you have no excuse for thinking they're "too poppy" =P

                    To derail even further...

Found a couple albums on the Zune music store, so I'm DLing them to listen to on my way into the park tomorrow.

This will let me know if I want to greet at FNSV, or hide in a sub.

                      haha, nice.

like we were talking about, "Rump Shaker" is the best album, but i think they're all good personally. i have a diverse taste in music

But seriously....how can I NOT take the advice of one named "Browncoat"?

As long as you aren't dropping the word "Shiny" around like it's going out of style.

They don't sound bad at all....better than some of the groups they have playing out there.

Here's hoping for a GC shift tonight. *crosses fingers*
