  • [Idea] Dress a character... a plush idea!

Today one of my kids accidentally hurt Mini Stitch. Dan wasn't sure if it was the kids or not, but I opted to replace it because I felt it was the right thing to do. As I walked through StarTrader looking around a thought struck me. Disney sells all these plush characters in all these different costumes and that takes up a TON of shelf space. What if they didn't have to do that. What if they took Build-A-Bear's model and then expanded on it.

I'm not a huge fan of the actual building process, so in my specific concept I would skip that part and just have a plush premade. At this point you can then dress and accessorize your plush. For example you like Stitch, and you like Indy. Well you buy the basic regular Stitch doll, and then for a nominal fee you buy the Indy costume for him. The majority of plush could easily be designed to allow interchangeability of costumes and accessories. This would also further declutter the shelves, because instead of needing one of every type of plush in every costume... you have a blank of the plush and every costume.

You also have the ability to then theme this shop to specific lands. If you want Mickey in a Pirate Costume... head over to NOS because you won't find it in Tomorrowland... If you want Goofy in Jungle costume then go to Adventureland... not going to find that in Fantasyland etc.

Just a simple thought. I know a lot of people who constantly complain about the lack of available characters, and the limited styles that characters are found in. I thought this may resolve both problems.

I had always kind of like the idea of having like the Princess in other Princess close for fun like having Cinderella in Jasmine's close or have Ariel in Belle's Aurora in Cinderella's Snow White in Ariel's Belle in Aurora's Jasmine in Snow White's something like that. I think that be fun to see even in a built a plush/doll what ever kind of thing.

          Like Build a Bear...

I think it's cute, but other than major characters, it would be hard to fulfill all wishes... would they make a Tiki-Room Tink and a Frontierland (cowgirl) Lady?

I love this idea. You can create a more unique toy or gift rather than just choosing from whatever is offered. They already have a build your eat hat and build your lightsaber, a plushie dress up would probably be great!

We completely love build a bear, so this idea is a hit with me. We have a ton of plushes and she seems to always want the next one out. To be able to buy a costume instead of a whole new doll is a great idea and takes up less space.

I'm surprised Disney hasn't tried anything like this yet. It would be a gold mine and would fit perfectly in DTD as a replacement for Build A Bear when it's lease is up, plus something for WDW when they redo Pleasure Island.

As it is I've bought outfits for some of my Disney plush at Build-A-Bear, so I've got one Stitch dressed as Elvis and another in a Hawaiian outfit, complete with a lei. I even made a Punk Rock Pooh, just for the hell of it. So I vote a big YES for being able to customize at the point of sale.

FYI, they have a bear at Build - A - Bear that you can dress as Stitch, muahahaha!!
