  • [Question] Do you think we will ever see a Lord of the Rings ride in Disneyland?

Well, in '87 we got Star Tours in Tomorrowland and in '95 we got Indiana Jones Adventure in Adventureland, do you think that somewhere along the line maybe in the 2010's we will get a Lord of the Rings ride in Fantasyland? I say it's just as epic and memorable as the others, what do yo guys think?

        No.

Star Tours and Indiana Jones are George Lucas movies. So they would have to make a deal with New Line and Peter Jackson. Good luck with them selling any rights to that.

Neither do they own Star Wars or Indiana Jones.

Your right, Disney doesn't own the rights but their have been talks of Disney making a deal with New Line. That's all been really quiet for a while now so I don't think any of it will come through...that's why I said no.

Disney will probably end up owning Lucasfilm one day when George gets old and tired. But the LOTR? Nope. Not no way, not no how. That's owned by Peter Jackson and New Line. Besides, that genre of fantasy adventure is a far cry from the fairy tales of Disneyland. They would clash horribly.

I bet that had Narnia not hit at the box office (the first one at least), we'd probably see Disney license LOTR. But I doubt it since they want to basically pull a Rings with Narnia.

I don't see why they wouldn't sell rights. It's not like New Line is planning on making a themepark or something. It's not like New LIne would completely give up all rights, Disneyland would just also have the right.

It could happen someday. But right now, I just don't see it matching up well with Fantasyland as it is. I'd rather not see it, IMO. IF they are going to put any movie related rides in Disneyland, I'd rather have Disney movies. But I'd really like more original rides like POTC, HM, Matterhorn, Space Mountain.... You get the picture.

Does Harry Potter belong in Disneyland? no.
                    Same goes for LOTR.

Wasn't Disney pursuing the HP theme park rights at one point, though? I heard that they had but sort of dropped it after Pixar cut ties with them and Disney decided it was in their best interest to put all their efforts into getting them back. Smart move, and one that they're obviously not suffering from.

I also agree with the statement about Narnia. Since they already have a host of rights to it, there's really no reason to go pursue LotR's rights unless Narnia completely tanks in the near future and that makes an end of THAT. But yeah. I don't see that happening...the next movie should do very well for itself considering it has suburb source material, which is something that PC suffered a bit from. And as far as Narnia's presence in the parks, they've already got one attraction up, a better one planned, and considering that Narnia is a seven-book series, I wouldn't be surprised to see even more come to fruitation in the future if the movies continue to do well.

...and just a little bit of pixie dust!

I hope not. I don't see any way to "Disnify" LotR.

I love the idea of a COMPLETLY immersive LOTR ride in ANY disney park. As long as it's vary detailed. It would be a differnt direction for Disney, but it would be like a coming of age rather than a betrayl of it's traddtion. I wonder if fans were asking the same thing about Indy so many years ago.

New Line Cinema is a part of the Time/Warner media empire so if a LotR ride were to ever come to fruition, it would probably be in a Warner Bros. park.
That said, Warner Bros. has one of the best rosters of iconic, American cartoon characters to compete with Disney. It's strange that they never bothered to make their own deluxe theme parks, and instead opted to sell the character rights to Six Flags which completely under-utilizes and cheapens those great characters.

No, I highly doubt that would happen. And it certainly wouldn't fit anywhere in Disneyland. And on a personal level, I sure hope it never happens...I find the LOTR films to be of vastly lower quality than the Star Wars OT and the Indiana Jones films...or at least Raiders of the Lost Ark.
