  • [Chat] Can Disney Return Disney's two lost symbols!

One is gone due to an accident. The other due to prices.

But both are also gone due to gas.

    Uti and the Burning Cabin.

Does anyone think that it would kill Disney to return these two items.

Come on, if they add HBG for HM40th, they can return those two along with it.

Same question. I may be a Disney Noob, but who, or what, is Uti and the HBG??

What are the story behind them?

Definitely didn't even know about Uti until your mention of her prompted me to do a Google search.

HBG is the Hat Box Ghost which was one of the original haunts in the attraction. It lasted just a few weeks before it was removed. Some say it is a myth and was never there, but on the Disneyland Secrets DVD, Tony Baxter had an original (on parchment) maintenance card from the attraction that lists the Hat Box Ghost as having been maintained.

It was a ghost whose head would disappear and re-appear in a hat box he was carrying.

Uti was one of the original Tiki gods in front of the Tiki room. The goddess of fishing. It wasn't maintained very well during the Pressler/Harris era and wood rot and paint peeling took their toll. Eventually it collapsed, as I recall, and was promptly removed, never to be seen again. She was over the entrance to the attraction courtyard. In the photo below she is just to the right of the sign in the giant canoe.

              Ah, okay, thanks, Mycroft!

Yah it'd be great for that to make a comeback.

Thank you tech!!! That picture I posted has been bothering me. Something about it was off, and your mention of shady opened my eyes... the whole a-frame structure is gone now isn't it?

As for knowing about Uti... I have to thank Data about it. His mention some months ago about his Imagineering class and talking about the flowers in the Tiki room got me really interested in it's history so I went and read just about all I could find about it. Such an amazing attraction.

I miss both of these symbols. If they bring the burning cabin back, I hope they will have a re-opening dedication/celebration. During the ceremony, I can envision guests applauding the moment where Presler and Harris are tossed into the flames, sparing no expense as special fireworks burst in the sky, spelling the words "Mickey's Revenge".

Re: Can Disney Return Disney's two lost symbols!

The removal of the 'burning' portion of the cabin is a curious story in political correctness. It starts when sometime in the late 60's, very early 70's, it became wrong to call 'them' Indians, as in 'Cowboys and Indians'. We couldn't 'exploit' the Native Americans, so the Indian Village was relegated to Yesterland when Bear Country came on line. This cabin area is all that remains.

Next, I believe it was in the 80's, it became wrong to say that the poor settler was attacked by Indians, lying there with arrows in his back and his cabin set on fire.

Eventually it became an unfortunate accident, which was common amongst settlers, as the cabin just accidentally caught on fire, no settler lying on the ground, no sign of invading 'Native Americans'.

Now that the fire has disappeared, I'm certain during the 'Dark Ages' of past management frugality, it was discontinued to save money on the natural gas, and to not be contributing to 'global warming'.

So as you can see, knuckling under to political correctness has led to the demise of an icon. What's next? The 'Red Head' at POTC? They already pc'd that attraction years ago. Then what? Are Princesses harmful to feminism? Are we harming our daughters? This is a slippery slope folks.

Can Disney return these symbols? Yeah.

Will Disney return these symbols? I don't think so.

I would absolutely love it if they did though!

I started a thread about Uti a year or so ago. Everyone thought she was either a birth-control device, or a bladder infection.

I agree, though--Uti and the cabin deserve re-representation!
