  • [Question] Parade Performer Audition?

Hi, guys! There's an upcoming PoD audition at the beginning of December, and I've been looking for info on the audition process all over, but good news has definitely been few and far between.

Can anybody tell me, if you've been a Parade Performer or at least been to the auditions, what exactly goes on after you arrive at the Casting Center?

    Lengthy answers appreciated! Haha

    xoxo

        Re: Parade Performer Audition?

Depending on attendance, they might have two groups to start with outside of TDA; one for Cast Members, and for Cast Member Hopefuls. At the Auditions for "A Christmas Fantasy Parade" face characters only, there were probably around three or so hundred Cast Members, and somewhere around a thousand or so Hopefuls.

They tend to break the audition process down into a few ways depending on the amount of people. Keep in mind, there will be a lot of people from "A Christmas Fantasy Parade" who want to stay on with the Entertainment Department as well.

The first is a dance routine which you learn practice about five times, and then perform it across the floor in pairs; this one goes quick so warm up beforehand and be ready to dance when you get there. Once you've done your routine you'll be placed in one of three groups. One group will be thanked for their time, and asked to come back and try again. The other two groups will be taught another routine, which they'll have about half an hour to practice during lunch if they wish. You'll perform this one in groups of five with everyone else watching.

Then it's a waiting game. They might also ask if you'd be willing to be wiged, or move to another room for a different type of routine. Often they'll ask if you're willing to be considered for other areas such as Fantasmic!, Pixar Play Parade, or Disney's Electrical Parade.

It can feel a little overwhelming at times, but you'll meet a lot of really nice people, and get a great experience. Not to mention the possibility of performing in one of the world famous Disney Parades!
Also, keep in mind, if you aren't one of the people they go with that day, doesn't mean they wont be giving you a call later on. Jodi Benson had giving up on hearing back from Disney, but a year later she got the call asking her to play Ariel. So you never know!

As for advice, simply have fun, believe in yourself, and enjoy the Disney experience!

Thank you so much!! I'll remember to keep everything you've said in mind while I'm there that day. Hopefully I can try to have fun during all the waiting, if I get the opportunity to wait for long

You're most very welcome allisongs! I'm sorry there isn't more I can offer you in the way of what they're looking for.

Though on another note, you might also want to bring something to eat and drink because the audition could go on for quite a few hours.

Have a wonderful time at the Audition and maybe I'll be lucky enough to run into there! I hope you have a Magical rest of your week filled with many reasons to smile and laugh!

                          Re: Parade Performer Audition?

I auditioned for Disney Holiday Parade back in the late 80s/early 90s, and it still sounds like they run the auditions in the exact same way! I got in, BTW, but it's a bit easier if you're a guy who can actually dance--at least, it was at the time, as there were a few more dancing spots than I think they have now.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

                            Not until 2010.
