(one question: did we ever get a source on this discovery... that aside)
The problem, in my mind w/ eliminating Jack Sparrow is that we are once again making this an all girls park. Now sure, little girls are a HUGE market (look at the princesses for crying out loud) but why are we neglecting Boys! They come to Disneyland to meet their heroes too.
Girls have the princesses and now the fairies and so on but what's for boys. Especially those boys that are a little "too cool" for Mickey and want something more "grown up" like pirates (or even Nightmare Before Christmas). The closest thing they have is Peter Pan and he's hardly ever in the park!
(not to mention all those screaming fan girls! Who whill they drool over?!? Who I ASK YOU?!!? )
It's also dissapointing because he was a fun character that actually got to roam free. He wasn't rangled in by a fantasy faire or a hollow.
*sigh* As Jack would say "bring me that horizon..." or at least pine for him til Pirates 4.
Yes the rumors about Jack leaving are true, but those fairy rumors are not. There still are 3 more TinkerBell movies to come out in the next 3 years. So don't expect them to disappear soon. I have heard though that soon you'll only be meeting Tink and one of her fairy friends though. Oh and they might be adding a mix of different fairies from the next movies.
I was told Sunday when I was there by Capt Jack himself and a couple of other pirates there. and They all did not seem happy as they have been always in the past.
I thought I had posted this last night but I am wondering if the "Pirates Lair" banner will disappear from TSI's entrance. One of the best parts of the TSI Pirate overlay is that it did not overly reference Jack. In fact the Mark Twain loop references Tom and Huck, and how they loved to play in the shipwrecks pretending they were pirates. I'm saddened that talent is leaving, but hopeful to have Tom's old sign back.

Ah, the whims of the trendy public. It's a pity the changes to the attraction couldn't be making a welcome exit rather than the enjoyable face character...but oh well.
Hear, hear! The walk-around character was always such a hoot, and the changes to the attraction should've gotten the boot. But who knows, perhaps the elimination of one portends that of the other. The classic notion of pirates is not a mere fad, but the movie franchise most certainly is.

Indeed. Though I must reiterate that I love the first film...I think we were all pretty aware that the franchise's wild popularity would not continue at the same level indefinitely. I don't know if Disney realized that.
So what happens to the M&G on the island.. that just becomes some lame photo spot? What about the stunt show... all that work being tossed to? I can understand seasonality possibly.. but dumping the pirate 'overlay' that has been happening all around the area seems like a real cut off your nose type thing.
It was Terry - I think I misinterpreted what I read, though. (In other news...I'd really like it if you'd been a tad nicer in your reply. It's a subtle thing, but it's remarkable how a few word choices can positively or negatively affect the way your responses come off. I dunno, I'm probably just overly sensitive because of one or two things you've said in the past.)
