Looking at the satellite view of DCA, I'm wondering if when they build the Carthay theatre, if that is in the same location as where "It's A Bug's Life" is located now... Anyone know?

Re: DCA: When they build the Carthay theatre, does It's a Bug's Life go away?
That is a great question. I don't believe that the Bug's Life Theater is going anywhere. From what I've seen of the artwork in the Blue Sky Cellar, the new Carthay theater looks like it will be built on the current location of the Sun Hub plaza. DCA's entry area is actually moving forward toward where the C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letters are in front of the current entry. This will allow for a slightly longer entry street with the Carthay Circle Theater as the main focal point.MiceChat 101: Be NICE! If you don't play well with others, you are in the wrong sandbox.

It looks to me like they are building a facade for the Carthay Circle on the back of the existing Bug building which will remain the same on the other side.“I love the nostalgic myself. I hope we never lose some of the things of the past.” -- Walt Disney

It will continue to be Tough to Be a Bug. The Carthay Circle Theatre will be where the sun icon is - actually, it'll extend a bit further north than that, so its front facade will be even with the south sidewalk of Hollywoodland, I believe. The It's Tough to Be a Bug theater will remain intact a short distance behind the new addition.

Re: DCA: When they build the Carthay theatre, does It's a Bug's Life go away?
Getting rid of the Bug's Life Theater (BLT?) would have been a good thing to do, that way they could have easily stretched the Main entry area all the way to the Pacific Wharf area, and that would have provided a much more central hub for All of DCA. Without taking out BLT, the entry area will still seem rather "short-sheeted", even with extending the gates further into the esplanade.
I think it was on the DCA update topic that mentioned that there reallly wouldn't be much room for a major attraction within the Carthay Theater. However, in exploring how some sort of attraction could be added to the Carthay, the idea of using the building where Playhouse Disney now exists. HOPEFULLY, they will they will place a major attraction in the Carthay Circle. As the "new" first major weenie to be seen upon entering DCA, it really needs to NOT be empty. Unfortunately, no word that they are really planning anything for Carthay. UGGGG!Critter Country's a mess ev'r since the Country Bears were kicked out. I think the best thing would be for them to gut its tough to be a bug building and combine that theather building with the new Carthay Circle building and feature a dark ride inside similar to great movie ride (but maybe smaller in scope).

Re: DCA: When they build the Carthay theatre, does It's a Bug's Life go away?
Rumor is that Carthay Theatre will be a small house
Only whole about 100 to 200 people .
House seat size can be 50 ft by 38 ft with aisled space.
So acting area can be 24' X 24 '
This do not count the off stage area or Dress room.
So Im say that will not take a big area to put this theatre in.
If you take out the Sun there is room to put small theater in.
I have Cellphone picture of a small theatre that whole 154 seat in main area.
The Blue Sky celler is a Small Theatre, with No dress room.Last edited by akfandisney; 12-12-2008, 07:49 PM.

I doubt it, we should be open minded about the fact that its not going to be a full on theater, just the facade of one, the show building will be modest at best, perhaps suitable to house the Disney gallery or proposed preview center. This is about the size the theater will be.

Re: DCA: When they build the Carthay theatre, does It's a Bug's Life go away?
Although It's Tough to be a Bug is my favorite Disney 3-D attraction ever (I liked Captain EO back in the day, but I was a teenager...don't fault me), movie attractions only have a life for so long (hear me! HISTA needs to GO!). The queue for Bugs is big (as are a lot of them for DCA! i guess they expected huge lines for Muppets, Superstar Limo, and Bugs) and the theatre is a good size. They could really make the Carthay complex into something really interesting.
Keeping my fingers crossed. I think the current plans for Buena Vista street and the whole new entrance is fantastic. I can't understand why they didn't think of this in the first place.

Granted, it will not be quite as far as the distance between the Train Station and SBC, but I don't think it will feel "short-sheeted".

Well, that's not exactly a fair comparison. The turnstyles-to-major-icon distance in Disneyland is over 1100 feet, but it'll still be less than 500 in the new DCA. I don't know how it's going to feel, but it's safe to say that there's a very significant difference in length.

WDI is really try to push to make the Carthay the new Walt Disney Story... confirmed word has it that the archives were taking inventory of the formal office items in the Opera House and that if Tony Baxter gets his way ... Cathay gets the offices, and the Opera house Lobby becomes the Disney Gallery. Once confirmed word of the fate of the Annual pass center in the bank is released, take that as Tony won the battle.Known in most other circles as "HauntedOne999"
