  • News Ed Grier on the DLRR!

Sources in the roundhouse have reported that Ed Grier has not only been spotted at the Park recently, but that some of you may have been closer to him than you may have thought. Apparently, he pulled a "Walt" and spent some (presumably) enjoyable hours firing a couple of the locomotives of the Disneyland Railroad.

The suit came off and was replaced by overalls. The tie was replaced by a neckerchief. This was the way Ed Grier, Disneyland Resort President, entered the Roundhouse. He was then given the DRR hat to wear as he climbed aboard the E.P. Ripley and began to learn how to fire her! As I understand it, Mr. Grier enjoyed himself so much, he fired for over 3 hours! This time also included a bit of time firing the Ward Kimball too. So kudos to Ed for joining us out there

Wow. I bet this is the first time he's been on any Disney attraction.

      wow... he does exist...

In all seriousness I appreciate the fact that he took time out of his busy schedule to actually learn the "nuts and bolts" of a beloved classic attraction. I would hope that it would be an ongoing tradition and not a one time thing. The only time we ever really had higher level managers doing things like this was when we cross-trained prior to Union contracts.

(Wonder if Lasseter had anything to do with this?)

That would earn him points in my book. I'm glad he did this, and I'm glad he had fun doing it, though really, who wouldn't? Chance to be a little kid again and "drive a train."

                    This is interesting.

I don't know much about Ed Grier, but from what I heard he doesn't really visit the theme parks; he is a bit of a mystery from what I've noticed. As for him driving a locomotive, that sounds great! Can't wait to see the pics, Steve!

If he enjoyed himself so much, maybe he'll learn other things about the parks!

Like how to find his way around without a map, and he'd do the goat trick on BTMRR, etc! He'd make a note of when the speakers went out on his train on Screamin', and would pat a funny JC Skip on the back when he laughed at jokes he hadn't heard before, and he walk by a little boy and his dad asking a CM "When's the parade???" and wonder the same thing.

And after he went through the beautiful castle walkthrough, he'd want to see the movie and would buy it on Blu-ray! Then he'd love the Haunted Mansion so much that he'd want to buy a shirt and wouldn't be able to find one he likes, and then he'd see HISTA and wonder where the film that is REALLY suppose to play there is, and then he'd wait for an hour to meet Ariel at the PFF only to have her switched out right before he got to the front!

And then he'd buy a Dole Whip float and eat it in the Tiki Room and think about how he's been missing out on all this magic for so long when he could've been getting in free for years...

It'd be a turnaround the likes of which I haven't seen since I watched Michael Cain in Muppet Christmas Carol!
I'm really starting to like this new Ed Greir. I might say he's becoming one of my favorite people!

I'd love to see and hear him yell, "All aboard!"

Then, I'd like for him to make his way to the Churro (9) stand in Town Square, down six churros, and top it off with a Diet Coke.

All the while, thinking to himself, "I am the first black president of The Disneyland Resort. I DO have a reason to CELEBRATE!!! From here on out, I will make Walt PROUD."

Heheheh....great points both, great post TBS. Epic win!

But in seriousness, good to hear he was in the parks actually for once, and hopefully this might be a new trend...we will wait and see though...
