[Question] Main St Electrical Parade vs Spectromagic. Which one is better?

Just curious to hear what everyone's thoughts are on Spectromagic vs MSEP (which belongs on Main St, not DCA IMO). Which show is better? What do you like about each? Which has the better soundtrack? Etc.

Musically? MSEP, hands-down
Thematically? MSEP

Those weird masks in Spectromagic have always disturbed me.

It think both parades are fine, but the Main Street Electrical Parade wins with me because it touches me emotionally whereas Spectromagic does not. The music especially does that. The nostalgia of the MSEP can even make me a little misty as I watch it sometimes. Plus aesthetically, I do like the floats a bit better in the MSEP. Pete's Dragon is my all-time fave.

Pretty impossible to live up to the classic that is MSEP, but I for one think Spectromagic is as close as any nightime event has gotten. I'll take Spectro over F!, no question.

MSEP (which belongs on Main St, not DCA IMO).

Hey, whatever it takes to see it. Main Street, DCA, my back yard. I'll watch it anywhere, I'm not picky.

To be honest, Spectromagic is weird and creepy in my own opinion. Besides I never liked the White light effect.

I prefer the Electrical Parade. Spectromagic just annoys me. The music is too slow and blah.. Plus I prefer the look of the Electrical Parade floats to Spectro..

MSEP all the way!! I love the song, and the way it has been around for so long gives it a classic touch!

Problably cause SM seems to slow (with the music) in my taste and the creepy mask people creep me out!!!!!

SpectroMagic for me. SpectroMagic was my first ever night light-ish Disney theme park parade and I fell in love with it first so it has my theme park heart. MSEP is just a runner up compared to SpectoMagic, even though it was the first but come on, not everything that comes out first can't not just be out done.

Then again my dream is to see both SpectroMagic and MSEP in one giant mesh of a parade on one special night AT The Magic Kingdom, not Disneyland. I want Cinderella's Castle in the background while I watch it on Main Street.

Spectro. I love the music. It's an almost classy, whimsical waltz in the midst of four thousand variations on the same gooey "When You Beliiieeve in Magic" song. And together with the music-themed floats it always reminds me of those old music-themed Disney shorts (that and Fantasia, obviously.)

And creepy schmeepy. Those puppets always make me laugh.

Not that the Main Street Electrical Parade isn't any good, but it does get a little repetitive, doesn't it?

There's something about Baroque Hoedown that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I love everything about MSEP.

As far as Spectromagic - I do love the Chernabog float.

Spectromagic has lyrics, I think that is my biggest problem. It is the only nighttime parade with lyrics. Also what I find weird, the costumes. The lights on their costumes make them look really weird. Like some one stuck big pieces of light up lint balls on there costumes. It doesn't seem natural.

As much as I love WDW's SpectroMagic, MSEP will always be my all-time favorite hands down. But SM does have some of the old elements of MSEP in Ariel's unit with King Triton and the finale unit.

Both have an emotional attachment to me. The MSEP will always have a special place in my heart from my childhood. Watchin it with my parents and having the song stuck in my head for days afterwards. Awesome

More recently however, I saw SpectroMagic last November on the wife and I's first trip to WDW. When the finale music hit and we heard the lyrics:
Though we say goodbye
We cast a spell that won't be broken
Let this night forever
Live in our dreams!!!

We both started bawlin like babies because it hit us that we were at WDW!!

I'm with ya Zorro. Both have a strong emotional histories for me. I grew up on MSEP as a child, but enjoyed Spectromagic back in my high school days with some of my best friends.
