  • Is the Dole Whip an acquired taste?

Hello all! After reading the praises of Dole Whips over and over on this board, I told my hubby I HAD to try one this time. My verdict? Tastes just like parmesan cheese ice cream with a bit of a sweet aftertaste. Is this just my tasters being off? Did they not have enough flavoring in it? It tasted just like what cheese ice cream would taste like, if you ask me. I don't get it... HELP! Did I just have a bad Dole Whip?

I've had many whips, and I've never tasted one like that! Sometimes, if the mix is a little off, it tastes a little icy, but normally it's very smooth and reminds me of a Dairy Queen soft serve, just with pineapple flavor.

Maybe something was off on yours - but like anything else, tastes vary widely. It's not for everybody, but we absolutely love it. I'd try one more before writing it off.

I love it, so no acquiring was required. But I assume that if you don't like pineapple, then you won't like the whip.

Maybe some flavoring, like the pineapple was missing from the mix. I like it because it has a nice flavor but is not too sweet or heavy as some ice cream. It is refreshing! It also just seems a special treat with the atmosphere to go with it.

The only thing that upsets me about the Dole whip, is when they don't sell it!

MMMM. I had my first Dole Whip on May 4th, 2005. After hearing so much about them I had to try one. My husband and I shared one and after we were done we got another one. They were so good.

I liked it ok the first time I had it. It didn't taste AS MUCH like pineapple as I wanted. But, it's very mild.

Don't eat a whole whip straight. Have a popcorn chaser

lafantasma: Perhaps the over-hyping of Dole Whips created a slight let down for you. But, try it again! Next time, get a Dole Whip Float, in which the Dole Whip floats in a cup of pineapple juice and it's topped off with a cherry and cocktail umbrella. The pineapple juice enhances the flavor of the Dole Whip.

I tried the dole whip after everyone was raving about it on here too and didn't like it very much... but then again I am a really picky eater, and I dont like pineapples...
