  • [Question] So, about that Tower of Terror random drop sequence...

Is DCA's tower ever getting it? I remember back in 07 there was a rumor that it was coming but then nothing ever happened.

Rumors are rumors, they don't always actually happen.

GOOD question! I was about to ask the same thing in a post myself.

That would be so awesome if they put that in California. I thought they had put it in, but quickly realized I was mistaken.

At a certain point it becomes boring knowing exactly when the elevator will drop and how many drops it will have. I really hope we get the random drop sequence soon.

Huge pops of airtime is boring to you?

Well, ok, but I can say knowing the potential ingredients that make up a random drop sequence can make that just as boring, given enough time & enough rides.

Sometimes merely being random doesn't necessarily make for a better ride either. I've had about 20 rides on the Tower 4 (Random) drop program, and maybe 1 combination has been more enjoyable in terms of airtime than DCA's non-random sequence.

Please do not let them bring the random to DCA! I think it's way cooler in concept, but if they put it in here, I won't be able to ride it. I will freak out and pee my pants from fear!

Ack! I don't think it's boring, knowing what's coming next is the only thing that can get me through a ride on it calmly. I enjoy the ride, but the absolute fear I had of a surprise drop the first few times I rode it (and then had it memorized) was practically debilitating! The first time I rode it, my friend who took me on it had to whisper what was coming next to get me through it!

In Florida, the current incarnation of ToT has a computer-controlled set of random drops. You know how Indy is supposed to be "A different ride every time" (well, when it works)? Well, this really is. After they tell you the story for the ride with the effects and stuff, the order and size of the drops is randomly computer generated. I think you can read about it on Wikipedia, but I'm not sure. I found some pretty thorough sites once with little graphics explaining how the system works, though.

I find this to be a really interesting perspective! I hadn't thought of it before, that certain amounts and sequences of drop time can be more pleasurable than others. They totally have to think about these things when engineering a ride! It must be even harder in terms of roller coasters when you're also having to think about the spacial layout and the physics of the structure!
