  • [Question] Lighter crowds on SoCal-blocked days?

Am I just imagining things, or has anybody else noticed how the crowds have actually died down a little on days when the SoCal passes are blocked? I especially noticed this comparing this past Sunday (April 4th) to those during March.

Aside from the 4th being a Saturday, not Sunday, I'd have to agree. Sundays used to be our day to go, but we started realizing that the park was wayyy more packed than on Saturdays, when most APers are blacked out. The advantage to Sundays, though, is that everyone has to be at school or work the next day and the place clears out significantly in the evenings after the last Fantasmic/Fireworks show.

Another advantage to Sundays...the MC meet!

You know, I still haven't been to one? It takes a miracle to get me to the parks before 3PM.

Yep, I've noticed this for sure. In fact last year the first few weeks of summer So Cal blockout seemed to be one of the slowest times of the whole year. I expect the same this year, but the B-day, longer 2fer and buy 3 get 2 free offers may counter balance this effect somewhat this year.
The Mickey audience is not made up of people; it has no racial, national, political, religious or social differences or affiliations; the Mickey audience is made up of parts of people, of that deathless, precious, ageless, absolutely primitive remnant of something in every world-wracked human being which makes us play with children’s toys and laugh without self-consciousness at silly things, and sing in bathtubs, and dream and believe that our babies are uniquely beautiful. You know…the Mickey in us.

It is reasonable to think that the economy being down as it currently is would lower the number of tourists coming to DL. Blockout dates are determined based on the expectation that tourists will be coming.

So, those deluxe and premium AP'ers should come on down!

As soon as the word gets out, this won't be the case anymore.

Re: Lighter crowds on SoCal-blocked days?

Last Sunday (April 5) was definitely not as crowded as previous weekends in March. It was a pleasant surprise to be able to experience the park without feeling like a can of packed sardines. And this was supposedly one of the peak weekends of Spring Break. With the amazing weather, I thought there would be massive crowds. And I certainly didn't complaining when the crowds never materialized.

Don't forget that Saturdays from now to Labor Day Weekend are triple blockout days (both So Cal APs and the Deluxe). That should still make it relatively quiet for non-passholders as well as for passholders who are willing to shell out for the blockout day ticket.

Let's hope that's the case next Saturday. I'm forking over the $40 for a blockout ticket cuz it's the only day I can go while I'm in the area.
