Well it's about that time again

A thread started by mp3piratesavvy about the Pixarization of DCA reminded me again of how I dislike the way "A Bug's Land" has taken over the entire Farm area and turned it into an area dedicated to one set of characters from a movie.

So now I'm making a thread were I turn my attention away from one troubled area of DCA (the Pier) and to another (the farm). At first glance it seems like the farm theme is something boring and mundane I mean how could it be entertaining or exciting at all, but when you really think about it there are alot of things Disney could've done to make this land very entertaining. I also believe that there was a better way to install Flik's Fun Fair without overwhelming the entire land.

    A Bug's Land
I'll start with A Bugs Land. Now I'm sure that most of you are aware that A Bugs Land is really a clone of the Little Mermaid indoor carnival in Disneysea. Which brings us to what I believe is it's biggest mistake, rather then being indoors ours was built outdoors.

Flicks Fun Fair would've been much more impressive if they'd had set it up like you were walking through a tunnel underground were you could look up and see the roots of the different plants grown on the farm hanging down, as well as the holes in the ceiling left by Hopper and his gang from when they flew out in the Movie (and can we say Hidden Mickey ) basicaly the whole are could be like a walking darkride were you could really breath in the atmosphere (not that you can't already but I think this would be more interesting).

The fact that it would feel underground would also have other benifits, as you walk down into the tunnel it'd be easier to present the idea that you are infact shrinking as things appear to be getting larger around you and you round a corner only to face a nice Bug Fair that flick is presenting just for you. This could also work good for an exit, if Disney were to build a LA Expansion like I'm talking about they could have a second way out of the Bugs Land area were you walk up and see the big buildings towering over you, are you still shrunken? no your in the streets of LA

This would also be an interesting opportunity for Heimlick to be extended a bit it could start in the Ant Colony move up and outside and then through the ussual food type thing then it could move back down and through the ants food storage area. This Addition would've been nice but sadly I don't think they'll ever go through the trouble of reconstructing A Bugs land, the transferance of size will just have to remain as it is.

    Barnstormer
Now I'm going to start saying things I think should have been in the farm all along. Goofy's Barnstormer is a ride in WDW that has the same basic track layout as gagets go coaster but with a different theme, guests board a crop duster plane and go around Goofy's farm and through the barn scarying chickens and such.

This is a ride that would be a perfect fit for a Disneyfied look at farming, instead of using the go coaster track layout Disney could easily lift the Flounder Coaster (a longer then gagets kiddie coaster that is in the non inside area of the Little Mermaid section) layout from TDS and use it for this park. They could have even waited till they built a Bugs Land and built this ride ontop of the Bugs Land showbuilding (this creating a double layer to the park.

Even Now it's not too late they could remodel the farm, setting up the tractors and instead of a play area they could be on display in the que line this moving sponsorship if this ride to whoever has those tractors int he park and they could build the coaster over the water playground area since it's now redundant thanks to Dot's Puddle playground.

This ride would be a perfect for kids that arn't ready for screamin, parants that don't like being turned upside down and people that just don't like wild mice. It would also add a since of movement and kinetics to the land (yeah sounds kinda like tomorrowland when i say it that way but it would bring the area to life).

    Living Off the Land
Now for the last thing I think they should have built for the farm. Living Off the Land from Epcot, yes I think this ride belongs in the farm section of DCA, it could easily be modified to be a ride about california agriculture.

It could have outdoor portions themed to an irrigation canal and fit with the theming of the farm rather nicly, it could start with the rice paddies and how much they cover the california area and move to orange groves or other such things, they could also grow flowers for use in the different florals in the resort. Much like the ride in Epcot it would be narrarated and it would provide function not only as an attraction but also by providing plants and different foods to places int he resort.

I know your all thinking this sounds a bit like the factory tours but I think that this ride would be far superior, for one you'd be sitting in a boat in a flume so the ride would actualy take you somewere (actualy I think Disney would've been smarter to build this ride INSTEAD of the factory tour, better to have one strong land the a couple of weak ones).

Living off the land wouldn't take up as much space in DCA of course because they'd have to ditch a few scenes that don't really apply to California aggricuture so it wouldn't be quite 14min but it could be a good 7-10min ride I think and it'd be a nice peacefull atmospheric trip. I'm Mostly talking about cutting it back because 1. the land pravilion seems to take up a ton of space at epcot and I don't think expansive greenhouses are necessary and 2. I don't want the ride to overstay it's welcome.

Instead of fastpass they could have a system were if you wished to you could reserve a seat at the farmers market resturant before you get onto the vehical (the farmers restruant would be redone so that the boats go past it kind of like the blue bayou does provinding even more atmosphere) the route would be simple, you board the vehical go through the rice paddy section then move on to several areas of california agricutre then you would go outside and see the land and then go back into the building going past through the farmers market at the end (opposite of pirates, get it you go through the resturant last to give you a from beginning to end feel).

Had DCA opened the farm with the crop duster coaster and Living off the land it would've been much more balanced in it's offerings and would be an area with something for almost everyone I think it would also have a good since of motion and life that Disney is famous for. And when you think about an underground a Bugs Land going in there after all of that this area would be pretty awsome to visit and the atmosphere would be terrific.

But Maybe it's not too late, like I said they could still fit in the crop duster coaster, and they could rip up the farmers market and build out into some of the Timon lot to really pull this area together (heck since the Land Pravilion is getting Soarin I think they owe us one and this isn't that big) and push Flick back into his own region (yeah I'm forgetting the whole underground idea but it would've been terrific).

Wow my paragraphs are big this time sorry about the lack of pics everyone

anywho what do you guys think?

wow great ideas! I love the indoor bugs land thing that makes ever sooo much more sense. And they could add a themed restaurant in there too for the family. you would get a lot more families in there; shade/air conditioning and benches all over for the parents. I still dont like kiddy rides as much as family rides, but with that kind of theming the whole place would become a family experience. You could add other simple things too; like a mushroom forest maze or something.

I am sure there are even more ideas that could be added in there and keep with the theme. I love all of your ideas though they are far better than whats there now, an indoor bugs land in particular seems no brainer.

yeah I forgot to mention a themed resturant in A bugs land, I'm really dissapointed with how a bugs land was done, the indoor theme was both obvious thematicaly and simply because they were cloning a group of attractions already presented that way. Without it being indoors the expansion seems to resemble a desperate attempt to balance offerings, kinda like when I'm running low on $$$ in roller coaster tycoon and I just drop tons of flatrides into one location

I like the idea of a mushroom maze and I forgot to mention that the mushrooms would provide lighting at night just like in the movie. I tried not to add too much more simply because I didn't want to enlarge the footprint of the land too much. The indoor theme would work very well for turning the whole area into an almost E-ticket like experience.

I also forgot to mention that Hemlick could move through part of Living off the land to provide even more synergy between those two rides

          I like your ideas!

You know, when I first heard that DCA was having an area called Bountiful Valley Farm, I naturally assumed there would be some sort of Listen to the Land type of attraction. Would have been nice, I always liked all the edutainment attractions from Epcot.

Then when I heard they were adding Flick's Fun Fair, I assumed It would still be Bountiful Valley Farm, and in it would be Flick's Fun Fair, the crops, the farmer's market and It's tough to a bug - along with some reasonable and simple ways to educate the postive aspects bugs have for agriculture.

Imagine my suprise when I arrived to find the whole land had been rethemed and that the Bugs had taken over. Don't get me wrong I like the Fun Fair and I have a really demented obsession with Hemlich's Chew Chew Train (for some inexplicable reason I lurv that ride and wish it was longer).

Basically, my gripe is the Bug theme would be good for a portion of the Farm but cannot and should not be a land all of it's own in DCA.
