  • [Review] Disney's electrical parade reviews

Well, went and saw DEP last night and here are my comments. (FYI - I have seen this parade since 1984 when it was MSEP).

    Good:
    1. Pinocchio floats return - Yea!

    2. Tinker bell float (I'm luke warm about it, and why does Tink need to be in a hot air balloon, she can fly for crying out loud!).

    3. Last (patriotic float) - Fireworks were re-done quite well.

    BAD:

    1. Pixie Dust on other floats (if I could see the WHOLE parade at one time, this effect MAY look nice. It does not, it takes away from the original floats).

    2. Music. Disney, you couldn't have left good enough alone, could you?

    3. Circus floats are gone. No Dumbo, etc. We knew this was coming, but still; it NEEDS to be there.

    4. Blue Fairy GONE. Yep, Gone.

    5. Music Oh, I already said that. Well, it needs to be said again.

I have seen this parade for the last time last night (unless friends/family REALLY want to see it later) but I am not wasting my time on it again, sorry. Thanks Disney for ruining this parade for me.

To be fair alot of people DID enjoy it, but I'm old school MSEP and they just pulled the rug out from under me with this version. YUCK!

We've never seen the parade (OK, I saw the original at WDW when I was 14), and thought it was magical last night. We were charmed.

It sucks Dumbo is gone. Those units had my favorite music, aside from the main theme.

The Electrical Parade has changed so many times over the years... its meant to change - and this wont be the last one

The music for Pinocchio- what? I couldn't even pick any songs from the movie out the medley! I think they just tried to make it sound carny-ish.

I think it still has that Electrical Parade feel, which is good. I really like the pixie dust lights that travel throughout the parade, those were really cool. The music... well, all they really did was re-record it with more modern synthesizers. I think it was appropriate for Tinker Bell to take over for Blue Fairy, although Blue Fairy hasn't become obsolete yet, Tinker Bell does hit a stronger chord with the kids of today. Hey, they're both fairies.

Overall, I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the older one.

Nooooo! The Pinocchio music was my favorite from the old MSEP soundtrack. And I was so excited when I heard those floats were coming back...

In my opinion, I think the new music is great. Sure it isn't the original, but it sounds more magical.

I didn't mean it like that. I loved the old MSEP Pinocchio music as well, but I'm talking about the new music. It just doesn't really have any Pinocchio songs in it, they just tried to make it sound like a fair.

I watched it on YouTube...and I heard the "I've got no strings" song.

Would it be so hard to throw the Blue Fairy in there by Pinnochio float. I guess they can't have Dumbo doing Magical and the Electric Parade at the same time.

But Tink can make it from the Electrical Parade to F! to Magical.

                            My review:

                            GOOD:
                            • It's nice seeing the old floats back. Especially Pinocchio, whose floats look better than ever.
                            • The new soundtrack definitely gives the parade some more magic. Nice that they went out of their way to cover up the orchestrations on the Pete's Dragon unit and write a whole new piece for Cinderella, rather than reuse the DreamLights music heard in the underliner, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Snow White units.
                            • All lighting effects were great. I especially enjoyed the train and drum unit's dimmers.
                            • Tinker Bell's new float is very nice. The only thing I don't like about this float is the balloon at the front.

                            BAD:
                            • They got rid of the Dumbo unit. I don't understand why they did that. Maybe it was because of the budget.
                            • There was something missing in the new soundtrack. I think that the bass needed a little extra "oomph" to compare to the original of Don Dorsey.
                            • Tinker Bell's pages should have been the other fairies; Rosetta and Iridessa on one side, Fawn and Silvermist on the other!

I also heard "An Actor's Life for Me" in that float music.

I agree about the music, and have posted my comments in the thread with the video (since I haven't seen it "live' yet) here:
