  • [Question] Magical....Fireworks - Love Em, Like Em, Don't Like Em

Your Pollmaster is at it again, well sort of. This one isn't so much about posting another poll, but more so of a question I have for my local So Cali Micechatters who have been to the park lately to see the new fireworks.

This evening, Becka and I went just to Disneyland, didn't go into DCA, with the sole purpose of seeing the new fireworks. We walked up to the center between the Partner's statue and the castle to look for seating. We were going to eat first, and with plenty of seating still left, we decided to go into Tomorrowland to eat at the Pizza Port. On the way there, right at the entrance to Tomorrowland, we ran into Micechat's own & beloved Penguinsoda, with her daughter and a friend. Who, we had absolutely no idea, was going to be there. And Penguin hasn't gotten to see Aiden yet, and has been wanting to see him, so she got an unexpected treat. We stopped to chat for a few, but since Aiden was getting fussy and hungry, we went to eat and then came back & hung out with Penguin. Leading up to showtime, they were making announcements, once again, that the show might be cancelled due to high winds. Fortunately, the show went on as scheduled, but unfortunately, without Dumbo. During his Baby Mine song, when he's supposed to be flying around, he was nowhere to be seen.

But now onto the point of this thread. I have to say, that as a die hard Disney fan, I am not impressed with the current fireworks. To me, and Becka agreed, the show was just like any normal or typical fireworks show. And probably would've felt the same even if Dumbo did take flight.

Don't get me wrong, and I took a peek at McGoofy's thread with the video of him flying around, and yes, it looks rather cute and bittersweet with a classic Disney song that is sure to tug at anyone's heartstrings. But it doesn't take away from the point that it just feels like another typical fireworks show that they've done in the past. Only it has a different song, different singer, and the projections on the castle. Other than those, it's just ordinary.

Maybe it's because after seeing Remember....., which felt more interactive with the Haunted Mansion and Pirates sequences, and this one lacking all of that, maybe that's the reason it feels too ordinary. Maybe going into these, with me and probably with many other fans, the expectations were set high since seeing the Remember show. But I am a bit disappointed, and just not impressed with the new show. So far, Summer Nightastic just not living up to the hype. Fireworks are lacking, we have a broken dragon, and the Electrical Parade, still kinda looks like the same parade, just with brighter and newer looking lightbulbs. They should add more floats to that parade to liven it up more.

But anyways, let us all know what you all think of the new show. Love em, Like em, or just don't like em. Place your votes.

Just got back from DL. I'm not sure how to vote because while I am definitely not impressed, I can't say I don't like them because really I do love fireworks. But this show is definitely not up to the usual standards, and certainly not even close to Remember. It would be a decent show elsewhere but is sub-standard for Disneyland. The soundtrack didn't thrill me, it is actually rather dull.

    "Magical" this show is not.

I too just saw it for the first time today and was rather surprising at the seeming lackluster shape of the show. Dumbo didn't make a showing, which probably detracted heavily from the appeal, but a number of parts in the musical arrangement seemed too frantic or too busy in terms of music, but also lacking in terms of corresponding fireworks. I was, simply enough, not impressed. That said, I don't find "Magical" to be a bad show, but rather one that doesn't seem to connect very well to it's theme due to whatever reason. It has its moments and I do like the seemingly brighter burning fireworks and some of the choices in music, but overall the show lacks impact.

I haven't seen the new show yet, but having worked at the park for ten years throughout the 80s, I saw my share of firework shows.

The "Remember" production which just closed was better than any I had ever seen when I was a CM. So I wonder if everything is going to pale in comparison now.

It sounds like this new show is pretty much status quo when it comes to fireworks shows. In a sense, it is a return to the fireworks shows of olde, with a few added projections.

I think Disney outdid themselves with "Remember." Will be a tough act to follow.

I just got back from DL as well, and my review is "MEH". I watched it once, but never felt the need to again, like I wanted to with Remember. A Downgrade for sure, whcih seems so wierd to me in their peak season!

Exactly. Which is what makes it such a great show.

I've always been impressed by Disneyland's fireworks. They have not produced a show that fails to amaze me. Most parks, if they even have fireworks shows, limit them to low level displays. Only at Disneyland do you get to see high-quality pyrotechnics on a nightly basis.

I love the simplicity of this show, and brings back memories of the best show they offered, which was Fantasy in the Sky. I'd say Magical is a good show, better than Remember but not quite as good as Disneyland's original classic Fantasy in the Sky.

The fireworks show is just an ordinary show because this year is just an ordinary year (unless you want to pass the Celebrate! campaign as a significant landmark).

I personally love the new lighting on the castle with the spotlight effects and such. Also the confetti is a great touch in the black light.

It's no RDCT, but this year is no 50th celebration either.

The dinner you eat tonight will probably be a downgrade from what you ate on your birthday. Same idea goes for Disneyland.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing the fireworks at Disneyland again, so I excited to see it in July. To me, the Disneyland fireworks are always spectacular and always brings a smile to my face.

I think the new show is just fine. I'm not crazy about it and don't think it is anywhere near as good as the previous show or even Believe. But it is a nice little show and serves its purpose. It isn't a failure by any means.

I love the big shells, the lighting on the castle, and Dumbo (when he is actually able to fly). I don't really miss all the low level fireworks off the castle.

I'm actually looking forward to Disneyland doing more frequent smaller shows than one big show that just goes on and on for years.

My choice on a poll for this show would be between your first two choices. I do not think it's the best show ever, that would be Remember but I also don't think "cute, but not the best". To me it's more than cute and ranks right after Remember. I think the fireworks are great and the back lighting on the castle is amazing because of the glow it gives to the castle. I'm personally loving the show.

It's a shame Dumbo did not fly again last night. He did not fly Monday when I was there either. After Friday, I'm blocked out for awhile so I hope to see the Electrical Parade tomorrow night and then do the special trick and get into Disneyland to see Magical. Friday it will be all Magical for me.

So for me this fireworks show is great, I love it and would see it over and over again if I could!

I didn't vote at all because I haven't viewed the show in person. However, I have watched it on video, and I really liked what I saw.

I was excited to see these after hearing about Eden's rerecording and the Mary Poppins focus, but it dissapointed. She has a nice voice, but the songs just didn't have that magical feeling as the original soundtrack. I was not drawn in by the purely instrumental music playing in the background. the kite projected on the Matterhorn kinda seemed out of place. If they want to feature Go Fly A Kite, then I would prefer to hear the vocals with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke singing it.

I think they are pretty good. Still better than what comes out of alot of other disney parks, but still not remember.
