IASW was shut down for about a year for a complete refurb.

Did you notice any of the new additional Disney characters on the ride?

    Some say they are controversial...

Alice and the White Rabbit are a couple more that have been added. It is controversial because some really, really dislike the idea of having Disney characters in the classic attraction that really has nothing to do with the characters at all.

Your right.. some do think that they are controversial...When I first heard about the small world modifications I did not like it...I was skepical and slightly bugged about the Disney people messing with one of my favorite rides, but after I saw it I really liked it. I am a believer lol! I was surprised about how seemlessly they fit into the IASW scenery...They added characters from the Disney movies...there is Cinderella and her mice, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Pinocchio and Jimminy Cricket, Lilo and Stich, Finding Nemo...etc. They also added the American Section with Woody and Jesse...look for them in the ride next time...they are super cute!

PLEASE- could we not destroy yet another innocent thread with our... debates?

Where was this black wall, of which you speak, micha_13?

            As for what was done:

-All of the lighting and sound equipment was replaced
-All sets, dolls, Audio Animatronics, AA(s) for short were painted and freshened up, so they look brand new now
-A whole new deeper flume was built and installed inside the show building and a new fleet of lighter boats were added for less slowdowns due to dragging on the bottom of the flume
-Set pieces/props that have been missing for some time were brought back
-The music was enhanced in some locations, adding more of the native instruments to that section's music
-A United States section was added, just before the grand finale room, displacing the Papua New Guinea musician children and Rainforest scenes to the Polynesian room, just before
-Lighting upgrades to the outside of the attraction for awesome colors at night

And, the controversial additions of Disney animated characters (of which I am opposed to):
-Alice and the White Rabbit (England)
            -Peter Pan and Tinkerbell (England)
            -Cinderella, Jacques and Gus (France)
            -Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket (Italy)
-Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and Abu (Middle East)
            -Mulan and Mushu (China)
-Simba, Timon and Pumbaa (African Jungle)
-Jose Carioca, Donald Duck and Panchito (Latin America)
-Ariel, Attina, Andrina and Flounder (Underwater)
            -Nemo and Dory (Australia)
            -Lilo and Stitch (Hawaii)
            -Jessie, Woody and Bullseye (USA)
