  • [Question] World of Color Seasonal Tags?

With all the excitement going around about the new WOC show, it got me to thinking, "Will there be seasonal tags to the show?" Granted this show will be more along the lines of F! which doesn't have any seasonal tags. However, it is DCA's only show whereas Disneyland has F! and whatever the current nighttime spectacular may be. So what are your thoughts? Does it make logical sense for WOC to have tags? How will the new system be used to celebrate the 2011 New Year? Or will it be used at all? Your thoughts...?

Im a little confused by your use of the term ' tags ' but i get what your saying. I would think they would use the system somehow for new years. And in the future maybe have diferent versions for Halloween and Christmas.

WOC wont need tags. It'll have completely different shows. They said that a Halloween and Xmas shows are already in the works to debut most likely next season or the season after next.

It is a little easier to change out the shows for seasons over Fantasmic. WOC can be fully programed by a computer, whereas Fantasmic needs new props, new costumes, etc. because the show features live actors.

But yes, I believe there will be seasonal shows.

WoC is DCA's "fireworks", so it will change every few years. And there are plans for seasonal shows.

While, for the most part I agree with most of you, but, I wouldn't get too excited about WOC changing for the seasons. Remember how it was announced TSMM would change according to the season when it opened last year? Still hasn't happened. Of course, I could (and hope to be) wrong.

Mouseplanet had this to say about WoC in their recent update:

Steven Davison calls "World of Color" the "biggest show of my career," and says the show has been in development since 2004. Davison, who was also responsible for DCA's short-lived "Luminaria" show, said that show provided the foundation for "World of Color." Chuck Davis said that one of the biggest lessons from Luminaria was learning to work with the scale of the Paradise Pier area as a whole, taking into account the huge structures that surround the lagoon.

So, what about that giant fountain in the middle of the terraced viewing area? Davison says that the fountain can be an interactive "living character." Davison and Wiseman also confirmed that the World of Color show can be updated and expanded, and said that holiday and Halloween shows are already in the works.

Bob Weiss, Executive Vice President Creative at Walt Disney Imagineering, says World of Color is a first taste of the new DCA bringing "more Walt, more inspiration, more storytelling" to the park.

I'm excited about the possibilities the whole setup brings...WOC will probably be an amazing show in itself, but the setup allows for endless options.

I sure wish they'd at least reuse the music for Luminaria if a holiday show ever does come to fruition. That was such a beautiful soundtrack....it's a shame it had to go to waste.

I could see them doing things like having 2 shows on New Year's Eve, with the second show timed to end maybe 5 minutes before midnight. Then they do a special countdown to the New Year, much like they do at Epcot with Illuminations. They could even add some pyro for events like that. The possibilities are endless with what they will be able to do now. They will save loads of money in the long run as well. Just have to change programs.

completely agree.. The Luminaria soundtrack is an amazing piece. I remember they used to sell the CD soundtrack at the Disneyland music shoppe. It was a Holiday show CD which also included the Believe in Holiday Magic show.

luckily it didn't all go to waste because they do use portions of the soundtrack for the Castle Lighting show at DL. still gives me goosebumps when I hear it..

hopefully they can incorporate parts of Luminaria's music into the holiday water show they are planning for DCA.

Ha! They can even include the children's drawings again, this time projected onto 200 ft water screens! That seven-fingered Santa never looked so good!
