  • Video Little Mermaid planned for Disneyland?

We all know the the Little Mermaid attraction was designed for Disneyland Paris and we all envisioned the ride in our favorite park in Anaheim.

I was watching some time laps videos of Disneyland's construction and an interesting little bit stood out.

At about 1:10 into this video (which appears on a DVD) we hear Tony Baxter mention that the Chicken of the Sea was to be placed where Eric's castle exit is.

Is this the same Eric's Castle that was originally supposed to house the Little Mermaid attraction?

Am I crazy, or did Tony slip up?

Hmm...that is interesting. I remember hearing that it was damaged when they removed it, but Tony did say Eric's castle area and something about Small World. hmmmm....
Wow...I've been gone a long time...but I'm glad to be back!!

That's where it would have gone if they had built it as Tony wanted. But they are building it at DCA instead. At one time, they even considered putting it where Buzz Lightyear is now. Tony has wanted a Little Mermaid attraction for a very long time!

Wow, makes the outrage over the thematic clashes in DCA seem a little misplaced now doesn't it? The Little Mermaid in Tomorrowland would have been far worse.

I believe the reference to "Eric's Castle, north toward Small World" is a reference to Eric's Castle in Storybook Land.

You wouldn't have known that the building was in Tomorrowland, because you would have entered through the area that was then the Little Mermaid Meet and Greet, just off of Matterhorn Way.

I guess that is by Small World.

It just stuck me because I know they wanted to put the ride in the former motor boat cruise area.

Eric's castle as in Eric's miniature castle in StorybookLand.
