  • [Fun] Fun little obscure things to do in the park?

First of all, hello to everyone here at MiceChat! My name is Christie, though you can call me whatever. My love for Disney has been strong ever since I decided I wanted to be an animator, but recently it's turned into a little obsession, hence my stumbling across this website. After a week or so of lurking I've finally decided to register an account. Nice place ya got. =3

    Now for my post --

My friend and I are both Annual Passholders, and after one of our many trips to Disneyland our brains hatched a fun idea. We would take on each land, one by one, and try to do everything there is to do in that land in a single DL trip. We called it our Disneyland Invasion Plan.

We don't want it to just be a 'hit all the attractions' type of deal, though. We also want to fit in other small, random things that normal tourists don't do - you know, the little things that add to the experience. Like watching for the invisible fish in the walkway between Frontierland and Fantasyland. Or going to the Animation building in DCA and sitting through the entire reel of videos in the lobby. Or decoding all of the Marabic messages in line for Indiana Jones. Or playing hide-and-seek on Tom Sawyer's Island.

I need ideas to fill up my Invasion Plan. We've already conquered Toontown, Critter Country, and A Bug's Land (starting at the smallest and moving up), but of course the victories have been far too easy.

So I figured this forum would be a great place to ask - what sort of things do you do (or would like to do) in Disneyland and California Adventure that one might not normally think of? A tradition? A different way to ride an attraction? A game?

It's nothing special, but Disneyland does such an amazing job with details in design that I've begun taking special notice in the ground lately. When I go to different areas of the park I check out the details inlaid in the concrete. I love Frontierland and the horseshoe impressions...

Try heading up to the Circle D Ranch on Big Thunder Trail (the place many call the opetting zoo) and get to know the goats by name. Most wear name tags. They have great memories, and once you get to know a couple, they'll remember you from visit to visit.

Wow! I love your idea! It sounds totally fun!

Umm, you should look up "Disneyland Secrets" on Google or something and try it all! For eample- in front of Snow White there's this apple and if you touch it then it make something happen or there's a pole while in line for Indiana Jones and if you pull it then it causes the ceiling to drop a little (it hasn't been working lately for me though)
sigpic...After a YEAR I finally was able to figure out my password again! I'm baaack! Woohoo!(:

          • I like to take a trip on the Mark Twain on the middle deck. Cool. shady, nice view.
          • In Fantasyland, look at the steps going up to the Skyway Chalet. Little concrete logs, all handmade to look different.
          • Try and recognize all the songs coming out of the music machine at Dumbo.
          • Note the water tank at the Frontierland Train Station. It's real, and the chute is counterweighted so it can be dropped or raised easily. There is a small tunnel for the engineers to release steam pressure into: the entrance is covered with steel mesh so the local fauna won't crawl in for shelter and get cooked (Originally it was built with bars but later reinforced with mesh) and the steam dissipates through a chimney behind the station building across the tracks.

Can we make a list of hidden things that first timers don't know about...

I'm not sure if this link is going to go through correctly, but this was a fantastic thread a while back. If the link doesn't work, just type this in in the search bar. It was really informative!

xD Right after I created this thread, I found about three older ones that discussed similar things. Sorry for making a new one! But there have been some good ones posted in this thread so far, too - Thankyous! Maybe if I collect enough and make a really good list I could post it up online somewhere...

@kelbelle: Thanks, I'll search for that!

I really can't think of a lot to do. Watching the invisible fish is always a thrill for me, though you already said that.
I think it is fun to just search high and low for Hidden Mickeys!

Being a person who has done a lot of design, installation, and maintenance of industrial machinery very similar to the rides at DL, I'm constantly figuring out how each one works, and how I'd build it differently, or improve it.

It's sort of funny sometimes, I'll look at something that could have been done better and think 'Bet I know how that happened'. A lot of stuff they build is absolutely brilliant though.

Ride every single ride in Fantasyland. My brother and I did that one morning in 45 minutes. And there are ALOT of rides in fantasyland. be sure to get there early though.

Is that working again? The last visit I checked, it wasn't.

Try and count every person in DL. Then go to the front gate and see if your numbers match theirs.

It's fun for the whole family!

AP, this is a neat twist on some older topics. But I like the idea of "the obscure things to do". Walking the pathway that goes alongside the Columbia docking area. Some attraction are obscure, especially if you don't have kids ~ Casey Jr is a cute attraction, spend a little time at the mailboxes in toontown. And of course, Mickey and Minnies houses are well known, BUT when was the last time you spent some time exploring those cute areas?

Whats becoming a tradition for my friends is we have to go to Rainforest Cafe at least for dinner and have a bavarian cream filled churro. (oh yeah, believe it my friends love those churros now!)
