  • [Question] What is this area?

Really noticed it last night for the first time, for some reason I always thought it was the back of the Princess Faire.

Last night took the train from N.O over to toon town to hit a few last rides and get away from the Fantasmi crowd, and passed an area kind of behind where the last native American settlement is on the ROA , it looked like a big stage area, there were red and blue lights and they were on.

    What is this area?

That's the Fantasmic dock... It's where all the bearges, eels, crocs, and other floaty props (minus the Twain and Columbia) go to sleep!

Actually, I don't think that's what you saw. What you're describing sounds more like the festival arena that housed The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Festival of Fools back in '96. It's been closed to nothing but corporate events since that show ended its run.

It's heartbreaking to see what's become of Nature's Wonderland. What was once a 7-acre masterpiece that cost $2.5 million in 1960 dollars is now just a storage yard and dumping ground. Who drives 1000 miles to pet a goat? What they have done to that area of the park is unforgivable.

Like Bob said...and not only heartbreaking...but genuinely puzzling - it's really an awesome opportunity for DL, and a strange counterpoint to the idea that "we don't have enough land here"

Darth, you are right it was the hunchback area. We went back to the park today for 3-4 hours before our flight home, right in front of the wagon or whatever that thing is was Woody and Jessie, so the kids took some pics, and I was asking their CM escort what was that area back there and he said exactly what you just said, it was the Hunchback of Notre Dame Festival of fools.

As to the point about Nature's Wonderland, I cant speak to that, my first trip was I believe in 1977, summer, so it was already gone. But when you look at the track and tunnels still hanging around there plus the wasted space in the petting zoo and fools area, are you telling me that they cant do something there?

            Cmon...

That did used to be The Hunchback of Notre Dame show stage and viewing area. Then it was rented out for parties, I wonder if they still do that?

Is this the area behind BTMR? The place where there's a turkey and abandoned restaurant and such? Or is that a different abandoned spot?

Whoops... you're right. I read too quickly and saw "staging area" not stage and my mind jumped to the docks. Good catch!

To that end I'd like the Internet community to join me in reminding the Disney company that "it all started with Walt." As you can see below we've created some T-shirts, plus a few simple graphics that you can copy and paste into your websites to let folks know how you feel.

I noticed this last week too. I had a "feeling" that it had to do with the Hunchback; I don't know why, because I wasn't in Disneyland for that, but I guess that I was right.
