  • [Question] No big posters allowed at Disneyland?

It was my birthday today and I received a lot of surprises from my boyfriend and friends.
I was eating at the Blue Bayou and my boyfriend had my friends ride on Pirates with a big poster that says "Happy Birthday Stephanie" and it was cute and fine and all.
When we were leaving the park and taking a picture in front of the Mickey shrubbery with the poster, a cast member came up to us and said that big posters weren't allowed in the park and didn't know how it got through the tents. It was only like 3 feet long too.

So yeah, why are posters not allowed in the park? Its just a big paper sign.

Imagine that it was your first time riding Pirates and a bunch of people were in front of you waving a 3 foot long banner and trying to get their friend's attention in the restaurant across the water. It might ruin the magic for you.

While it seems harmless, some things like that can really wreck a person's experience.

However, not being allowed to take a picture with it outside is pretty lame. I don't see a problem with that.

Because Disney cannot monitor what is on the sign. A sign saying happy birthday is one thing. But Disney doesn't want people bringing in signs that may be vulgar or offensive. So the best thing is to ban all signs.

my friends were put on the back of the boat so they wouldn't be that much in the way. the people on their boat were nice about it.
then they went on a second time and a nice cast member gave them their own boat. the boat behind them were really nice and cheering.

a cast member waiter told me that my friends were great and that this was the first birthday poster he has seen, usually its just proposals.

i guess posters get taken in a lot for special occasions?

That sounds like a grumpy Cast Member trying to act high and mighty (the one saying posters weren't allowed)

And seeing as how they were on their way out anyway makes it seem kinda pointless to bother at all. They weren't bothering anyone.

Seems odd that there would be such a regulation in existence at all, and if it does exist - who the heck would even know that? I wasn't aware of such specific regs during my time there. Sounds like someone made up a rule on the fly.

You passed many CM's between Security, Pirates and BB
All of them seemed ok w/ the poster
I too question why only one of the few thousand CM's told you no posters
Also, on your way out which seemed weird (unless they thought you were going to DCA and they wanted to give you heads up...but still weird.)

If that's the case, they need to ban those glowing/lighting/flashing mickey ears, especially in the dark rides. The worst indy experience I had was when the whole front row decided to wear them throughout the ride, illuminating everything in the show.

                    /end of rant.

                      Disney wouldn't do that
that would be cutting into their profits
a poster doesn't chip at their profits (ok it does, b/c your not buying a Disney item..but you get the point), in fact, it's free (minus purchasing it for less at Target and making it)
If anything , Disney would try to see something to make money off the idea.

Why would you want to take a poster into the parks anyhow??

It read as if the poster was only an issue when it was opened and in front of the Mickey shrubbery. Can't you see why this might be a problem for Disney? Let's say we all started bringing in posters and posing with them in front of iconic DL things...posters that might be vulgar, posters that offer support for one political party or candidate, posters that advertise a particular beer...by placing the poster in front of the image, you're implying Disney's consent or that Disney endorses whatever is on the poster. Then maybe a guest or two decies maybe they should 'leave' the poster behind, or fasten it to something...

Sorry you had a problem, but Happy Birthday!

RumRunner might have more details. I am curious if this is a policy no one knows, no one wants to enforce, or not a policy at all.

They don't want people to get creative.

(hint, what are posters often used for today?)
