  • [Chat] A couple of ideas i had for space mountain's queue

when walking down the queue inside the actual building of space mountain i notice all the backlit pictures of galaxies and stars.

they're static and very 2 dimensional. True we don't spend much time actually looking at them but it would be maybe a nice detail to make it look like it has a bit more depth.

i dont know how much room is behind the faux windows but i think it would be cool if they could remove the pictures and then install an omni projector behind where the static pictures used to be.

by using an omni projector the people walking towards it would see the same image through the 3 panes. the ones that im talking about specifically are at 1:20 in this video.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b8XB8SbB9Q"]YouTube - Space Mountain 2006![/ame]

By doing that it could display twinkling stars a galaxy slowly rotating in the far far distance and other ships arriving or departing the station.

also at 1:13 in the video theres the map of the space station. maybe an LCD screen could be installed behind plexiglass and have a transparent touch pad overlay over it so you can interact with it. it can point out your current location or display space departure times rotate the model to see the other ports on the space station, stuff like that.

these ideas are all based on the assumption of course that space mountain is one of these things:

    Well, I love the ideas.

The only problem is there's no room for omniprojectors, let alone room for a traditional projection, and making the Space Station 77 diagram an interactive piece would be useless, as people walk by so fast, and either
    a) They won't notice it
    b) They will notice it and take up valuable space in the queue, and they'll be kicked out by a CM.

But I know what you mean by those queue windows being static. I think something like the old WDW windows would work.

ah well... maybe someday they can make a new queue for space mountain and they'll have more room to work with.

(and hopefully get rid of fast pass)

Quick random question: what ethnicity is the guy in the pre-ride video? My friends keep guessing each time we see him but we cant put our minds on it. He's so neutral. lol.

Is my memory getting worse than normal? My recollection of the queue for Space Mountain, at Disneyland, is barely anything like the one shown in that video. I'm thinking that maybe the video is from the Space Mountain at WDW. Which Space Mountain are you referring to? I'm not complaining, but if you're referring to the one at WDW, then this thread is in the wrong forum. This forum is specifically for threads relating to the Disneyland Resort in California.

This thread is in the correct forum and the video posted
previously is of the Space Mountain in Disneyland and not
from the one in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

The thread is in a perfectly good place.

Ok. No worries and no offense intended. I just don't remember the queue looking exactly like that. Just more evidence that my memory is goi... Um, what was I talking about, again?

One of the few things I miss from the original queue were the windows in the last stretch before the loading room where you could actually see into the ride area (They are now the triangular panels on the left wall that are painted to look like access hatches). It both gave you a sneak preview of what you were about to experience and also made it seem like you were looking out into space from the safety of the space station. Didn't get anymore 3D then that.

Back then, the ride wasn't as dark as it is now. I think that the windows would probably would let in too much light and spoil the ride effect.

                          Just a guess really.
