[Question] Rope Drop?

When I was younger, my Dad and I would always get to Disneyland really early. They let us in an hour before the park opened and we would look at the stores since they opened and closer to the open time we would wait by the rope. A CM would remove the rope and we would head towards our first ride.

I don't remember them still doing this on my last trip in Oct 2007. My last couple of trips have been 5 day trips, so we usually sleep in and get to the park around lunch time since we had so many days to play in the parks.

Is this something that is still done in either of the parks? And if they do it, is City Hall open then for birthday buttons and such? Is the line at City Hall pretty long first thing in the mornings?

yup they still do it every day! In both parks

So if the park opens at 8, we can get into Main Street at 7? When do the ticket booths open? Are City Hall and the Annual Pass place open? It would great to get all that stuff out of the way before the park opens.

Do the crowds by the rope get super crazy? With mad dashes to the big rides? Because that could get a little hectic.

they do a rope drop when the park opens later then 9 AM, from what I experiences. They would hold you at the end of Main Street until the park officially opens and drop the rope.

They don't actually drop the rope, they wind it up and release the crowds after asking nicely that you not run the staff over.

And now it is just 30 minutes prior to opening when the park opens at 9 AM or later, barring special events such as the Half-Marathon and the CHOC Walk.
