  • [Question] something ive been wondering about flash photagraphers

what happens to them? do they get told anything at all? they keep taking flash pictures even when the ride announcer says "No flash photography" but they do it anyway.

anybody know anything about this? i keep wondering if there's a way that they discourage repeat offenders

Sometimes they ask them not to over the loud speaker. I have seen CMs talk with the offenders after the rides or POTC specifically.

Nobody is going to haul them off to DL jail if that's what you're asking!
They just keep doing it, and, it annoys everyone else, then the ride is over, and we move on in life!

And some flash-poppers who understand English but are fluent in Attitude -- a universal language that unfortunately has become more common at Disneyland in recent years.

I seriously LOLED loudly at this!

I had to yell at someone on my boat last time I went on this and they kept looking at me like "WHAT?!! REALLY?!!" and then doing it again. I think people are just convinced rules don't apply to them, tbh.

poor england. the offending parties are usually college students with phones it seems.

ah well it was just a matter of curiosity rather than a rage post.

THey come here, start a thread about "accidental flash photos", get sent to the litter box, than banned from Micechat for awhile, etc etc etc.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

This made me LOL! So do you think the whole time they are taking their flash photography pictures they are thinking about this?

Rude behavior by rude people who think they have a right to break the rules because they paid to get in.

It makes me so sad when people use flashes in dark rides. Each flash is a moment without magic. Saddness....

Sometimes I don't hear any announcements but if they are near enough, I ask really nicely for them to please stop. If they ignore me or say something rude, I don't say anything else. Although I have been told by my friends and hubby, I am the Queen of Passive Aggressive stares. And I apparently do a lot of turning and glaring. I guess I did a lot of that last night to some movie talkers behind us. So who knows how bad I get, when it is a Disneyland trip!

Never, never taken flash photos that would disrupt another rider's experience, HOWEVER I have been yelled at over the PA for my Infer-red light on my video camera. No one else can see it, and being yelled at RUINS MY VIDEOS! I will always attempt to talk to CM's after the ride to explain myself. Makes me so mad!@

That also makes me sad. If you're being asked by ANOTHER GUEST you've really messed up. I've asked several people, and voiced my concern to them as nicely as possible, but after being ignored I want to go ballistic. I'm really passionate and it brings on my temper.

I don't know what happens to them, but this thread is typical of what has happened to this topic in the past...

I get annoyed at flash photography on dark rides, but I can pretty much tune it out. What's harder to ignore are the guests that lash out at the flashers during the ride. They can typically be heard at a fair distance and really kill the ambiance of the attraction.

I completely understand this annoyance. I personally have only ever said something to people next to me, when I can quietly say something. I would never shout out to someone in another boat or vehicle or someone who was a few rows back. Because I know that yelling in a ride can ruin the magic just as easily as a flash of light.

I wonder if this is because it may interfere with their infrared system? I don't really know how infrared works, but that's just my hunch.

Being in the tech industry I can certainly understand if one or two flashes go off on a ride. Most of the time it is because the user of the camera is "menu-challenged" and cannot cope with the auto-flash settings on many of today's cameras. Back in the day when flash cubes were limited in the amount of flashes it could produce the camera manufacturers actually discouraged the use of flash for every picture and instead required that the user perform a complex ritual to get their flash to work. Those were much happier times for fans of the dark rides I'm sure.

The only time I had to yell at a guest for TMF (too much flashing) was in HM. Some guy about 6 buggies ahead of me was flashing away with a digital SLR camera. To demonstrate how bad it is, the guy flashed 4-6 times in the haunted hallway, flashed twice in the birthday scene, and flashed 4 more times in Leota's room. I waited until in Leota's I was facing his buggy and shouted real loud "Turn off your Flash!!". Funny thing was that as I was exiting I passed the guy, some tourist, complaining to the CM about how someone told him that he couldn't take pictures in the ride. As I walked by him it was obvious that he didn't know it was me that yelled at him.

You know I was thinking this last night too! I rode PotC and the person in the front took a few photos, I tried to not let it bug me, but it got me thinking! What if the AAs are the ones to tell them to stop like. Imagine the auctioneer say! "Arrr, you in the front, stop with the bright lights! I'm trying to run an auction here!!!" or something like that. I think that would be cool and might actually scare the guests enough to stop taking photos.
