  • The Nickel Tour

My friend pruchased the Nickel Tour several years ago. I easily found this book to be the best and most comprehensive Disneyland history book I've ever come across. Unfortunately, it is not published anymore, and used copies go for over $700.00 on Amazon. Does anyone know why it's not published anymore?

You should still be able find it. At the NFFC convention in Anaheim, I've seen new copies available for $50.00

Thanks for the quick response. Does anyone know if there is a difference between the first and second editions?

I got my copy at DL in the Disneyana shop about 2 years ago for $75.00. Are you sure they don't still have it? It IS a fabulous book. I read the whole thing a bunch of times.

The only difference I know if that the second edition has a few more postcards in it that are more recent than the first edition. I haven't looked at mine in a while but I know it is a really great book to have. The views that are shown in the post cards are just great.

I have seen it on eBay recently (last month or so) for about $60.

So, shouldn't it be the Fifteen-Hundred Nickel Tour?

WOW! I can't believe they are selling for that much! If I didn't love the book so much, I'd sell it. Actually, Disneyland: The Nickle Tour is probably the BEST book about Disneyland's history. If you can get your hands on one, do it.

I think you can order the book direct from Bruce Gorden and Camphor Tree Publishing. Here is their website:
                    http://www.camphortree.com/

It also has Great Books on Herb Ryman, The Sherman Bros and Peter Ellenshaw!

Ebay has one right now but at 89.95 starting bid a little too much. I have been told to get this book and from the posts I will try to find one. Not too miss! Just took a peek at Amazon and it was 794.12 for each and they were used!

Well, I just check the Camphor Tree website and the book isn't available there either.

At the Disneyana Show and Sale in Anaheim,
in July there was a booth where they were selling
the Nickle Tour updated book. If you are able to
hit some of the Disney Shows and Sales you might
be able to find it there.

Maybe email Camphor Tree to see about availability of
                          the book.

Correct me if I'm wrong... did co-author David Mumford pass away? And Bruce Gordon is no longer with WDI?

                              That's correct.

Also, Camphor Tree seems to have disappeared. Contacting them won't work...nobody responds. Also, the phone number doesn't work anymore either.

I reccommend getting this book any way possible...preferrably the cheapest. I just can't fathom how used copies on Amazon are selling for $700 to $900....honestly, will ANYBODY buy it at that price???

I didn't know that it was sold at Disneyana or NFFC convetions. If they sell it for $50 there, jump on that! It was $75 new.

Also, the second printing has more pages in it, with more postcards. The first one came out in 1995 for Disneyland's 40th birthday, and the second edition came out in 2000 for the 45th. So, you've got five years worth of postcards and updates in the back of the book. It's really too bad we couldn't get an update for the 50th, but I guess that's what the "Disneyland, Then Now and Forever" book was for, right?
