my boyfriend and are thinking about moving down to the phenoix area and were wondering if anyone knew:

      Driving Directions

My wife used to live in Phoenix and while I don't know specifics, she said that drive wasn't too bad.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. I've driven to phoenix a couple times from OC. It's about 350 miles, a good 5+ hour drive. Just make sure u bring your ipod and plenty of energy drinks. Be prepared for lots of rocky brown hills and dirt. I am in the process of moving there possibly next summer.

Which part of Phoenix? My wife and I live in Chandler (East valley), and it's 5.5 hours if we leave not during a rush hour, 6 hours if we leave during a rush hour. If you live in the West valley, expect 5 hours with good traffic.

We usually either have driven through the night to get there in time for opening (crazy, I know) or leave after work. In both of these cases, you avoid gridlocked LA traffic, which we've never had to deal with.

Also the heat there is intense there because it is a city literally built in the middle of the desert. So look for a place with GOOD air cond. for the rainy/horrifically hot summers.

We live in central Phoenix and without excessive speeding we get to Mickey and Friends Parking lot in 5 1/2 hours, that is with 2 stops. The drive is usually not to bad but once in Riverside/Orange County it is always a crap shoot.

If you have any other questions I suggest posting them in the Arizona MC thread so that other Zonies can give you their opinion.

From Central Phoenix as well here, and we normally leave about 1am Saturday morning and stop for gas at the half way point, and make it by 630am on average.

Little known fact... picked this up at CSULB when I was going there... Phoenix is approximately 10 degrees hotter then it has to be. When they were developing the infrastructure they looked at various cities including Long Beach. Long Beach at the time used concrete roads (which can still be seen in the old neighborhoods). It's more expensive, slightly more upkeep, but more durable, longer lasting, and cooler. Phoenix picked the cheaper alternative... asphalt... and the heat generated by the aspalt is about 10 degrees hotter.

Define hot . Most of us go from AC to AC during the warmer months (May thru Sept) and you become best friends with people who have swimming pools . In addition it is a dry heat and yes there is a huge difference between humidity heat and dry heat. October we start to cool down. Nov thru March is usually wonderful weather, then April we begin our warming trend.

Also welcome Hank I will get you added to the list and make sure to give you a heads up when we meet again.

I always compare it to living in Minnesota in winter - there are three months of the year you just have to plan on NOT going outside! I lived there for 20 years. It was usually 5-6 hours to Anaheim. Now I'm 40 minutes away.

I'm in Mesas. This time of year, we have really nice mornings and nights. It will still heat up into the 90s during the day, but the weather is improving.

Our family drives to Disneyland each year. A major chunk of your drive is on I-10. It's pretty mild as there are no big mountain passes or anything like that. Once you hit CA state line, you know you're halfway to Disneyland. You'll find other attractions in AZ (granted they're not Disneyland). I recommend Arizona Highways Arizona Highways Magazine - Scenic Arizona Photography, Arizona Maps, Arizona Souvenirs

Phoenix rocks! It is awesome and you can always drive up the hill to Flagstaff too cool off. Most of the year our weather is perfect.

This plays a big part in the urban heat island effect experienced by most large cities, especially in Phoenix. It's also part of the reason why when the sun goes down the temps stay well over 90 degrees. I HATED this when I left O.C. to go to ASU. Overall though I found the weather to be very similar to O.C. throughout the year with the exception of summer and nights. They even share weather patterns, as a storm in O.C. rolls through AZ a few days later.

weatherwise, Phoenix isn't much different than Palm Springs or Las Vegas.

If you spell it Phoenix on mapquest, it will tell you how far it is.
"phenoix" won't get you too far.

By car it's about 5 hours (depending if you go about 75)
                                      1 hour by airplane

It's such a nice short flight from Phoenix, I live in the east valley and can usually go from my front door to the front gates in two hours.
