  • News Disneyland's 2010 Promotion

More details were just posted on the Disney Parks Blog for the Give a day, Get a Disney Day promotion:

UPDATE: Hats off to each of the one million volunteers! Thank you to all who have participated. The last day to use the free Disney Theme Park tickets distributed in this program was December 15, 2010. Although you can no longer use a free

    9/26/09
Breaking news…as we just announced on Good Morning America, if you give a day of volunteer service to a participating organization, you’ll get one day of free admission to a Disney Park. It’s a first-of-its-kind program we’re calling “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.”

    ...

And yes, it’s that simple — a free one-day ticket to a Disneyland or Walt Disney World theme park for guests who volunteer a day of service to a participating organization. We’re celebrating you and the good things you do for your communities.
Our program officially begins on January 1, 2010. When it’s live, you’ll be able to visit www.DisneyParks.com or www.DisneyParks.ca and search for an eligible volunteer project. After completing the volunteer work, an e-mail will be sent from Disney with a link to print out a certificate to redeem at a theme park for a free one-day, one-park admission. And if you’re unable to use the ticket, it can be donated to a charity designated by Disney.
    There's more at the link.

(And, yes- while I realize Al has been keeping us updated on this promotion, this is the first that I've seen Disney make mention of it.)

They should just do the birthday thing again. I think that was a splendid idea (and it did get me to the park - an extra $100 they would have not gotten out of me otherwise).

I love the 2010 idea since it will get people out to help their communities but still add that touch of getting people inside the parks.

This is one of the best ideas I think to come out of disney in recent years. It is encouraging us to make a difference. Now u can give kids a reason to volenteer. The only issue I see with this is that now a group of people can all go together for free as opposesd to the birthday option where only one person went for free and everyone else had to pay, though I'm sure disney is being smart about it and writing all this off on their taxes lol

I see nothing wrong with that issue. If a group of friends want to volunteer together, why not?

^well my main problem with this is the whole "wont a lot people use it at the same time" unlike Birthdays which are spread out, we could see huge bursts of crowds on curtain months, aka January (I see alot of Disney fans doing getting the free ticket as soon as they can), Spring break, Summer, Halloween and Christmas time.
                Happy Halloween!!!

I like it. I don't live in the US so I can't take advantage of it, but I like it! It is a clever way for a corporation to look good; Disney will still make money from food and souvenir sales, but now they look like good guys while doing it! lol Seriously, a great incentive plan.

Pretty cool promotion made by Disney for next year. But, what kind of volunteering work, we're doing, I hope it is not annoying or hard.

I think this is a great opportunity. I mean it has people volunteer in their communitites to get a free ticket. I already know that my friends and family are going to do this. This is good because it encourages everyone that wants a free ticket to volunteer and help out people in need. Disney has done a good job. This is wonderful. I'm definitely doing this program Jan 1 2010. I am already volunteering at an animal shelter, so this is just another easy day that helps out so much more. Disney, you have proved yourself the happiest place on earth.

The Muppets are so cute all over the website!

You must be 18 to sign up and the youngest a volunteer can be is 6 (with adult).

Black out dates - For DisneylandFor those with an AP:
If I have a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport , is there anything else that I can receive?

Guests who present a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport may choose from one of the following three options instead of receiving the free 1-day, 1-park ticket:
                          • ‡ Available at select locations.
May I upgrade my free one day ticket to an Annual Pass or multi-day ticket?
Yes, you may upgrade the free ticket to another ticket type of greater value. However, the Guest is responsible for the incremental cost and the new ticket may only be used by the Guest.

Amazing! This is the best promotional idea ever!! I'm so proud of you, Disney. =3

Always a good thing to give people an incentive to do community service (though the ideal, of course, would be people willing to do community service regardless). I'd definitely be willing to put a few days' work in and make Disney donate $72 times some to a non-profit organization. >D

Arrgh, only one ticket per person regardless of volunteering days... Fooey. I was hoping to donate one ticket and get one of those exclusive collectibles...

I love this idea. It is so awesome. I work for a great company who lets us do a service project once a quarter and it really brings our team together. My husband and I also try to mix up our date nights and include some sort of volunteer project instead of just stuff like dinner and a movie. Our local food bank is great. I get all sweaty and gross because it is hard work but I always feel really good afterwards. Sore...but good! I used to work at an adult literacy program but let life get in the way because it took so much time, perhaps this will renew my dedication.

After reading this I'm not as excited as I was before, but only because at this moment I'm being selfish. I was hoping that it would work as the same way as with ur bday, where u can get 70 bucks worth of merch. The pin trading thing is a great idea seeing how most apers are aslo pin traders, but that is not something my gf and I do, thus its kinda ussless. As for the fast pass, we go all the time so if we don't get on a ride that day its no big deal...like I said I'm just being selfish, though I still plan to participate in the program...maybe I can sell the pin for 70 bucks lol

Wow, this is fantastic. Really really well thought out program by Disney. The first thing I thought of was that they were going to cause huge surges during certain times and they even made contingency plans for that. I was kind of hoping it would be a little more time than one day of volunteering but I guess anything that gets people out there volunteering. I really want to find out who did this so that we can agitate for them to get a promotion or at least get to create more campaigns like this one. So exciting.

Well most people who benefit from volunteers are poor, disadvantaged, homeless, and sometimes deathly ill people. So yes, by all means, lets not make this "annoying or hard" to get something FREE.
