Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
I admit that I have done this in the past. I'm trying to do better. I realize that there are different Disney Parks.
What annoys me is the use of the term Disney Parks on park merchandise. My recent trip to Disney World really made me take notice of just how annoyed I was at the term Disney Parks. I was hoping to get some souvenirs that said Pop Century on them. Nothing. Except for the pin, which I really did not care for. They have even generic'd the refillable mugs.
So, I promise to not say I'm going to Disney on my next vacation to one of the Disney Parks.

Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
I have only heard WDW referred to as "Disney" and it irks me... mostly because people here in the East think WDW is the be-all and end-all of the Disney parks. Not as much on the boards as IRL, though.
There is more than 1 Disney park. "Disney" could mean anything (even the Disney store, you know?)Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
That's very true about frequent Disney World visitors. They do refer to Disney World, as just Disney. I believe that's where I picked up the habit. I had about 4 vacations to Disney World, before I ever vacationed at Disneyland. In fact, the first time that I vacationed at Disney World with my grandson, Sean and his mom, Kathy we coined a phrase. "My feet hurt, I must be in Disney". I know it rubs me the wrong way now, but at the time, Kathy, Sean, and I thought it was quite funny. Our feet did hurt a lot, as we toured Disney World for the very first time.

This is a lot like San Francisco. Do NOT refer to San Francisco as "Frisco". Apparently the locals call it either San Francisco or The City. And apparently they can't stand it when it is called that.
The same goes for Disneyland.Last edited by DisneyIPresume; 09-29-2009, 05:40 PM. Reason: Extra sentence. I couldnt edit it from my phone for some reason

Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
Reading your thread title, I thought you were going to go around the world and visit Disneyland, Disney World and Disneyland Paris. I haven't noticed people referring to the parks as Disney. I see shorthand when people are writing as DL and WDW. Oh, but people I know that have never been to WDW, call the Magic Kingdom, Disney World because we call our comprable park Disneyland, they don't get the concept that the whole place is so big and there are so many parks there that make up Disney World.

Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
If I'm talking to other aficionados I sometimes refer to Disneyland as "the park", but other than that, it is always Disneyland to me. ...also the Magic Kingdom is, to me, in Florida at Walt Disney World or sometimes... (I admit) "Disney World" for short.Permanecer sentado por favor...

Yeah, it bugs me, too. I almost never comment on it when people say that, but I notice. It's called Disneyland. All it takes is a fraction of a second, a little more air passing the vocal cords, and a little more movement of the tongue. Or, in the literary and online worlds, a few more finger motions.

Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
Hmm, it doesn't really bother me at all. Mostly because in the context in which it is used, I know exactly which park they mean (if my sister in California says she's going to Disney this weekend, I have a pretty good idea I won't find her in Florida).
Also, for some people Disney is a way of life, not just a series of geographical locations. I think for many, going to Disney means a lot more than just a trip to the local theme park. Especially if you don't get to go every week...

Something that peeves me even more is when you read a book and the writer spells it as 'Disneyworld'. Oh my god, get your data straight. 'Walt Disney World'. Geesh.

Re: I'm Going To Disney... Land... World... Paris...
I didn't mean to fool anyone into think this thread was about an around the world Disney Park tour but I suppose that kind of lends credence to my point. The word "Disney" can mean so many things but one thing it certainly is not is a location. It is grammatically incorrect. You would fail an english exam if you said you were "going to Obama" in reference to an upcoming visit to the White House. If saying Disneyland is too much for you to handle then say "Dland" or "DLR" or... blah blah blah...
But it does also bother me when people refer to the MK in WDW as Disney World... although someone might make that mistake out of ignorance.
In other news... I am planning a trip to Disneyland Paris in March 2010 as part of my European honeymoon. Pretty stoked about that but it's besides the point of this thread. :-)
