  • [Idea] Replace HISTA with 3D Imax theater with variety

I was thinking recently about the idea that HISTA is out-dated, overrated and just plain and simply a one-time attraction anymore no matter how many days we stay.

And with the animated films going 3D, even retro-3D (e.g. Toy Story 1&2)

The introduction of shorts (15-20 minute) 3D films could be quite a draw.

They could run a "menu" of features throughout the day, this way a guest staying for a week would get to seem quite a few different shorts.

Do you mean original shorts? That could be an idea, but nothing that has previously shown at the local multiplex imo.

3D shows in the parks need to do more than just be 3D as well, since 3D movies are now commonplace. In-theater effects are a must. Not sure a series of shorts would allow for this very well.

    The idea has some merit.

Yes, merit. Yes! And then, we drop papa-in-law and the little woman off a cliff... ”Yaaaah! Kersplat!"

      (Sorry couldn't resist)

I wonder how expensive it is to retro TS 1 & 2 into 3D render?

... really... most anything would be better than HISTA at this point.. don't you think?

For sure, but I don't want something that's merely better, I want something special and original.

Re: Replace HISTA with 3D Imax theater with variety

There's a growing number of 3D theaters in multiplexes throughout the country. And IMAX is pretty strong too. Closest IMAX theater to DL is the Irvine Spectrum complex.

As another stated - common place.

My idea of a "Disneyland" is a place with experiences one can only find at Disneyland.

Plus ... I'm confident whatever Tony Baxter has slated for the Magic Eye Theater should impress us. (I think the whole MILF rumor is just that - a rumor. Started by someone who has no connections to what is actually intended for that space.)

Wouldn't IMAX be a tad to big for the Magic Eye Theater? For reference, half of the Soarin' building is below ground.

Actually, there's another IMAX, it's at the CinemaFusion @ The GardenWalk(I Think?)

My apologies ... the original poster never said anything about the IMAX format. Don't know why I got on to that.

But anyway ..... someone can pull out the newspaper to look up movie showings in Orange County (alone) and discover some 6-10 auditoriums (or more) that are showing something in 3D.

It may have been a DL only experience at one time.

                  Not anymore!

I'm really hoping the company will move away from 3D film based attractions .. permanently .... as they are no longer the "it" thing anymore.

And the problem when they do get them .... they just run them WAY past their prime.

Muppet Vision for instance. It's a 20 year old film now. It's stale, films do not have much of a repeat factor.

                  Soarin' will get old too!
I hope they'll have something new in the next 3-5 years.

A 3D Imax is pretty common place nowadays. Any attraction within the park has to be something very unique. Any film has to have the "4D" effects in the theater that work with the film. Anything less is like going to the mall.
